Can someone suggest a good phone launcher that would enable a double tap to lock the phone?

Lawnchair 2, also a pixel based launcher with added goodies and modifications. I've used it on many phones including my current 7 pro.

All launchers create their own launcher screen and you need to add your icons again. You can go to default apps to change between launchers.

Once you choose the default launcher the stock one doesn't come on until u choose again, its in settings>apps>default apps>home app

Hmm. Haven't heard of pear. I'll check it out. I've read lawnchair 3 is in the works.

I've tried more than a dozen launchers and I keep going back to Nova Prime.

So, where is the icon for "Screen off widget and tile"? How can I configure it if I dont see the icon?

Long press on the empty icons above your home page icons. It should pop up with a rectangle area. You can make the area bigger or smaller. The larger the rectangle the better your chance of just hitting any area of the screen to double tap to lock the screen.
