Phone no longer retains default home app

This week, my phone stopped retaining the default home (launcher) app. Every few minutes when I tap the home button, I am prompted to select which launcher to use and whether I want to use it "just once" or "always."

If I select "just once" and then check my default apps, it shows there is none selected for the Home app. If I select "always," it shows my selected launcher as the default home app. This only seems to last for a short while before I am prompted to select which home app to use again.

I've been using the Microsoft Launcher for about 2 years. The Play Store shows that the last update for the launcher was over 3 weeks ago, but there was a phone update on 3/23 that included the March 2020 security patch. Had anyone else noticed this issue since the latest phone software update, or is my phone experiencing a strange malfunction? I am using the AT&T branded version of the V40.

I have actually been using Edge since I first switched from Windows Phone to Android about 2 years ago. I tried factory resetting my phone before I saw this reply and the problem continued. I'm not sure how the browser would cause this issue with the default home app. For now, I've tried changing the default browser back to Chrome and may uninstall Edge if the problem continues. Edge has since received another app update on 4/1, but like I said previously, this issue seemed to have coincided with the March security updates for the LG V40 being installed on my phone.
