phone not rooted, yet phone player says desire hd

I got my inspire 4G from a friend that owed me some money. It is not a rooted phone, yet when I want to select a player for pics, the phone option says desire hd. Does that mean that my phone is updated or what? I don't want to eff my phone up, but I really want to root it and add custom roms to it. Can anybody help me please?p

The Inspire 4G is the AT&T branded model of the Desire HD, which is what the phone is known as in Europe. The phones are the same, just different names for different regions.

Sounds like u got a desire and not an inspire

When you go to Settings > About phone > Phone identity > Model number, it should say HTC Inspire 4G. If it doesn't, then your phone may have been rooted and then unrooted.

Then, as long as you have s-off, you are unrooted. Many apps and websites will recognize the device as a Desire HD because, as someone has already stated, basically it is.
