Phone not seeing SOME Outlook contacts

I use outlook 2010 and gmail. Phone set up to see all address books. I make Outlook my main address book as I am always updating it from my work computer. I have about 2,300 contacts in it.

For some reason, some contacts in outlook do not show up on the phone UNLESS I go into my exchange app and search them. Otherwise, the phone can't give them.

Thoughts?

Open the Contacts app, tap Menu>Contacts to Display. Is it set to All or Customize? If it's set to All and you don't see the contacts, try Customize and select the specific Outlook groups.
