Phone not working in the cold

Every time I go outside in the cold my phone screen goes really dark like darker than the lowest brightness setting. The phone still functions but I can't see anything. Does anybody know why thi s is happening?

I did and I turned it off and the problem didn't go away

That's weird, I find my phone is ridiculously bright. Sorry I don't have much info, try rebooting your os maybe?

I have found it hard to read my screen when it's very SUNNY and I have sun glasses on, even with the brightness cranked. But nothing related to cold.
