I did a search and found some old threads but no answer. On some of my texts the phone number is displayed in parenthesis next to the name, anyone find a way to get rid of this? Its annoying....

Unfortunately, messaging is a mess on HTC phones since 2.3.3 hit the scene. There are several bugs that arose in the messaging framework in HTC phones since they released that series of updates. Ghost scrolling, random ph. # appearing in sms, touch input causing wacky cursor movement, unable to send to random contacts, to cite a few. I experienced the scrolling and cursor nonsense, myself, before I rooted my Rezound. It the Sense UI framework and not much can be done about it. It's baked in to the point the same issues can surface in 3rd party apps like Handcent. They should have it taken care of when they release Sense 4.0.

All I can suggest to tinker in settings, clearing stored data in app caches, resetting prls & profiles, and rebooting to reload data, etc.,. Things of that nature, just pain in the arse tidying up. It won't erase problems but it can ease there frequency sometimes. Worse comes to worse, try a factory reset from hboot and pray it resets till any issue resurfaces.

That's actually not a bug and more by "design" even though its not a good one. It will show the number in texts if you have more than one number for a contact. The same goes for email. If you have a number plus an email address stored for someone (even if its an email addy syned from facebook) then it will always show the number in a text.

Since that is a standard on any phone if you back up your contacts. I didn't thiink he was referring to that. I figured he was talking about random #'s appearing there b/c that is, certainly, a bonafied bug in GB 2.3.3 & 2.3 4.

It's not because of multiple numbers. I have 6 different text conversations going right now, the only one that shows a number is my wife. I think I figured it out, some of them are linked to Facebook, some have email addresses, some have all of it. The problem seems to be the Facebook linking, when I link a person to their Facebook account their number shows up in the text. If I unlink them it goes away. It is also tied in with email addresses. For example, my wife's contact I had just her cell number saved, it does not show in texts. I link her contact to her Facebook page, her phone number appears, I unlink it, her phone number goes away. Then if I save her email address to her contact the phone number again appears in the text message.

Basically you can have no other sources of contact for people unless you want to see the phone number in the texts. Chalk up one more reason I'm disappointed in this phone.

Get used to it or sell it, such is the plight of a social media messaging device fueled by Sense.

I don't know about the Facebook links (I don't have any), but I unlinked my Gmail contacts with my Phone contacts and life was much clearer. Gmail knows the email addresses for emailing and Phone knows phone numbers for messaging and calling. I haven't seen the downside yet. ymmv.

I'm not buying the Facebook thing. I haven't synced it with this phone, basically because I hate it, just wanted to say that. Anyway, I had one contact that had the # show up with the message when I was doing everything the old comfortable way, I mean using Handcent. I found it on the Inc and liked it, plus GoSMS didnt working for me. Worked on my wife's phone but not mine. Never figured that out? Then she needed me to look at something and I caught a glimpse of Go again. Figured new phone new opportunities. I switched to Go and hadn't even thought about the number thing until I saw a rekindling of this post again. Since I switched no numbers.
