Is there a Rom that is "dumbed down" to just a phone and contacts list? We all know "Droid does", but I want Droid to stop doing, and be what it should be; a telephone. Reasoning behind this; every time I turn around, Droid is running a million and one things that I do not use, and have never used. IE; maps, Bluetooth share, calendar, calendar coordinator, calendar storage, email, gmail, settings, clock, calculator, latitude, places, voice dialer, voice search, Pico tts, blah blah blah, the list goes on, and its freaking killing the memory availability on my phone. It has a good half to whole second lag if I don't kill processes every couple hours. So how about it, is there a ROM that's stripped buck-naked? Currently running Reborn

install aosp cm7 and dont install the gapps. thats the closest you're gonna get. you could go /system/apps and delete what you want. but you need root. that might not even be the right directory so dont quote me on that.

Use titanium backup to freeze all the apps you don't want. You could also uninstall them, but freezing is reversible.

If you're just looking for a solid and lean phone-based ROM, Harmonia is an exceptional choice, in my humble opinion.

Stripped relatively bare of 'extra features', I think it's up your alley for a clean, simple ROM install.

Amazing battery life with apps, I'd imagine if you only use it for communication purposes (phone, texting) without apps running in the background, battery life will be even more extraordinary.

Give it a shot.

Some of that may be removable, but many things you think are standalone will have other consequences.

Make sure you have good backups before you do anything and after you remove stuff, make sure the phone can reboot. It would be bad to remove them and thinking you have what you want, then have it reboot while out someplace only to find it bootloops.

I would say first stop useing app killers, they have been known to only eat up battery and make many apps unstable which could be causing your problem. And Im not being rude but why spend the money on a android if all you wanted was a phone? But to the topic at hand I say go with Harmonia best striped down ROM there is and if you over clock and use something like juice defender it even has good battery life.

Oh and to add to my post only app killer like program I like is "Watch Dog" its a type of app killer but not like the ones I see most in the market. It only kills the one that are misbehaving and gives you a report. Regular app killer will pretty much kill everything and all that happens is a few minutes later the app restarts in the background. Watch Dog is the free app of the day on Amazon

I agree with Retorrent... why but an Android phone, if you don't want all the perks? There are plenty of other phones from Virgin Mobile that are much cheaper, and just a phone. Why spend your money on a $200 dollar phone, when all you want is contacts and a phone?

Try this The fone for you

My father in law might like that seeing as he wants as simple of a cell phone he can get. He dosn't like all the extra "crap" as he calls it

My mom was that way. Then she got a camera phone and found a few uses for it.

Then she wanted my Blackberry for the tether capability (nothing more), she loves it. I doubt she will go back at this point, but she was VERY against a smart phone.

I was too for a while to be honest.
I just needed/wanted a phone. I got the BB for tethering, then went Optimus for the "better" apps.

I wouldn't put anyone on a touchscreen though who only wanted a phone, the learning curve is too much. They will hate it. Yes, the buttons are bigger, but really, it's a bit much. They will want a button that hangs up (that is one of my complaints about this phone as well).

I found this huge brick for you :3

this entire thread is a fail.

virgin mobile offers other phones. a android device is basically a tiny laptop, you know what your buying. you know what your getting into.

if you want to make calls, they have WAY cheaper phones for that, that do it better.

also, you seem to know how to root and flash, why would you limit yourself to making the phone do nothing but make calls.

this entire thread is a fail. buy a different phone, give the V to someone who has a use for a feature other than calling
