Phone Overheating?

There have been numerous articles on this site and others reporting overheating issues with Pixel phones. Android Authority recently did a poll on the issue and a whopping 75% of the Pixel owners responding reported experiencing these issues, mostly with the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 models.

Because I have never had a heating issue with either my Pixel 8 Pro or my Pixel 6 Pro, it makes me really wonder if I just lucked out and got Tuesday production models instead of the Friday production models those having the issue received or if I am just doing it wrong. 😉

So, how about it, Android Central Forum Pixel 8 series users, do you have an overheating issue? If not, have you ever experienced the issue with another Pixel phone? What are/were you doing with the phone when it overheats? (Downloading? Gaming? Playing media? Charging? Using it in the sauna?) How does overheating affect your use of the phone? Or does it?

Curious minds need to know!

Mine hasn't over heated but last Wednesday when it was in the mid 30's I did leave it in the baking sun while at work and recieved a high temp warning. Took it off the passenger seat and put it in the shade for a bit and all has been well since. Lesson learned.

I've had a 6 Pro, a 7 Pro and now an 8 Pro. No overheating issues at all. Some time ago I had a Samsung S10 that got very hot one day. Turned out to be a misbehaving app which may be the problem people are encountering with overheating issues now.

I've had a Pixel 2, Pixel 6Pro, 7Pro & now 8Pro. I use my phone for work & entertainment from the time I get up in the morning to long after I go to bed at night, and have never had an overheating issue, or battery issue for that matter. The things just plug along and work!

I've never had overheating on my P8P but occasionally did on my P6P, but only when using it outside in the sun on very hot days, so not really a phone issue but just what would be expected in those conditions..

On my pixel 8 pro no issues but my 7 pro did overheat
Anecdotally, I would say that the majority of the complaints I have read on various tech and social media sites point to the 7 series, although I have seen them for the 6 and 8 series as well. Did the 7P overheat randomly or when you were performing specific tasks that you could identify after a period of time?

I didn't try to find the issue I just used it less it was mostly calls or video calls it would shut down with the warning which none of my devices happened in same situation, also I had the 6 pro didn't experience this but I've heard others have

99% of the time, no issue with my P8Pro.

A few weeks ago, when it was in my windshield mount and I was navigating via Google Maps on a near 90 degree day, I got a heat notice. That was the first and only time I received a warning and only after nearly 30 minutes in the heat magnified area of the windshield. The phone cooled down once I moved it to a lower part of my dashboard. I was pleasantly surprised it took that long to get the warning. Any phone would have probably had the same issue using GPS for that long and in that heat.

It is interesting that, while a few comments corroborate what I have read elsewhere, there is not much of a response here confirming overheating issues with the Pixel 6, 7 and 8 series phones (yes, I realize that this is just an 8 series thread, but I would imagine that many of us would have also used a 6 or 7 series Pixel).

As noted in my original post, Android Authority did a recent poll on Pixel overheating issues and they say that 75% of 1,800 respondant Pixel users indicated that they have experienced this and that they are not happy campers. This morning, I read the latest noise over at Reddit about how bad the Pixel phone is, with overheating being given as a reason quite often.

So why aren't we hearing about the issue with the same heated (pun intended 😉) passion here on the Pixel forums at Android Central? Are forum users here somehow different than the users of sites like Reddit or Android Authority? If so, what makes us different? How did we get all of the good Pixels and the users on the other sites all of the bad Pixels? 🤔

Through the forums on the 6/7 pixels I did hear and see posts about this and probably have mentioned my own issue along one of them.

I have seen them myself on the Android Central boards and don't doubt that there have been issues for some users (I believe you when you say you had issues with your 7), but it seems to me that there weren't very many here in comparison to what I've seen elsewhere and sometimes the issue was related to software not playing nice and eventually getting fixed or working itself out, ending the complaints (happens all the time with software updates, etc. and, as you know, it is not a Pixel- or even Android-specific problem).

If you haven't already done so, check out the Reddit Pixel-related boards. It's a whole different world over there with some pretty loud negative noise trying to drown out anything positive regarding Pixels. You will laugh, you will cry, and you may even fear for humankind. 😂

I believe you
Only time I run into another forum is if it comes up in my News feed , a lot of them get out of hand and I understand people's frustration when a device isn't working properly but to go off the deep end is crazy. Here in the forums you won't see to that degree of getting out of control maybe we run a tighter ship here and why they vent off else don't know lol
