When I'm using the smartphone in another app, incoming calls are sent directly to voice mail without ringing or notifying me . The only way I know that the call occurred is to pull down the notifications screen. Did I miss a setting or is that normal behavior?

It's not normal on my Pixel 2, and I doubt it's normal on your 3. Maybe a Do Not Disturb setting? (Which I don't use, so I'm not that familiar wih it.)

Thanks for responding. My pixel 3 was not on DND at the TIME. I hope that there is another user out there that has experienced the problem.

There's a "Filter spam calls" option in the Phone app "Settings\Caller ID & spam" section. The description for "Filter spam calls" states "Prevent suspected spam calls from disturbing you".

So maybe the above is a factor?

Check your additional settings in the phone dialer., as shown.
Good luck

I must be dense but I don't see the settings you describe. Please walk me thru the steps to get to those settings. I don't see those settings in my phone dialer. Thanks.

Thanks. That is 1/2 of the problem. The call then goes to Voice Mail witch I'd like to avoid.

Open the Phone app, tap Menu>Settings>Calls>Call Forwarding.

Select 'Calling accounts' and check in there.

Here's a screenshot of that menu.
Sorry but I might not have been too clear on what I was looking for.
I wanted blocked calls ignored but I didn't want them going directly to voice mail. Is that possible?

Here's my menu. Where do I find CALL FORWARDING? Thanks

Hmm, that's not what my Phone app looks like. It might be related to the carrier that the phone is on -- which carrier are you on? You may need to contact their support.

My carrier is Verizon. They have no idea what I'm talking about. They say that it's a Google problem. What should I do next or just live with it. Thanks for all your help.

Does your phone have a separate Visual Voicemail app? Or any other 3rd party call blocking app/service?

Also, what version of the Phone app do you have? (Find it by going to Settings>Apps, selecting the Phone app, and looking at the Advanced properties.) I'm on 42.0.285321512.

We are on the same version. I have no other call blocking app other than the Reverse Lookup. I'll uninstall it just to see if makes a difference. I'll let you know if it works.

As anticipated, it didn't work. I think I'll have to live with it. Thanks for all your suggestions

How long have you had the phone, and do you have any insurance on it? It should not act in this way. Perhaps return and exchange it?

Although they may not know much to help, it's still worth contacting Verizon support about it.

I've had the Pixel 3 for over a year. As far as Verizon is concerned, it's a Google problem.
As far as getting a replacement, after 1 year, I'll live with it.
