Phone recommendation for a 62 year old man

Hey everyone,
My Dad is going to be 62 years old this coming September and he's currently sporting an iPhone 5s. while the phone has been great for him for almost 4 years, it's starting to show it's age, battery keeps dying at 20-40% it crashes constantly etc. My dad is hugely budget oriented and I don't think that we could sell him on upgrading his phone to a new one if it's over 400 dollars. My father is also not tech savvy and I am worried that he would have a hard time switching over to an android device as he's incredibly embedded into the apple ecosystem. Are there any phone you might recommend that's easy to use and for me to setup for him or should I just look into getting him a iPhone 6s or 7?

In the UK, the iPhone SE is available for far less than the 6s or 7, so I don't see why you choose those two. In fact, the 5s is still available for even less.
A simple battery replacement may also be the answer.
