Phone screen turns off immediately when answering/making a call

Hi All,

Not sure if this is normal or not, but every time I make or answer a call, my screen shuts off. I have to press the home button in order for the screen to turn on again. It's not a big deal, however, it becomes annoying when I'm making a call and I need the keypad to select an option during a automated call. Any suggestions?

Once again, this is nearly always caused by a screen protector or case which is blocking the phone's proximity sensor. It's just left of the earpiece:

Thanks! Yeah, my screen protector is shattering and the part most shattered is in that area.
