Hope this isn't too off topic. I bought an led tv for my boat. Is there anyway to stream video from my phone to the tv? What do I need? Thanks

If the TV is smart you should have directions on casting which would include what is supported. The S8 also includes that information so would be a matter of matching supported protocols and seeing what hardware you need.

If it is a smart TV, you just need a casting app from the Play Store. I use AllCast and Web Video Cast. AllCast is a paid app snd it works well. Web video cast has a free version with ads and it works very well if you don't mind ads. You can pay a small fee and remove the ads. If you don't have a smart TV, you'll need a Chromecast or something similar. The Chromecast app is not great for streaming video IMO so you'll still want a casting app. I'm pretty sure you'll need a wifi connection for this to work. You might be able to get it to work if you use your phone as a Hotspot but I can't say for sure.

Use Smart View. It should have come with your phone. It should be one of the icons when you pull down the notification shade.

The problem with lots of these proposed solutions is that they require wifi. I use a wired device with an included port for power so that my phone doesn't run out of gas. Specifically, the Towabo USB 3.1 Type C to HDMI.

Of course, if your phone has MHL (which Samsung formerly used) you have other options.

This works with S8+? I thought it had no hdmi support?

Samsung stopped supporting MHL in the galaxy 6 and 7. The galaxy 8 supports the new hdmi over usb-c specification.

Its not a smart tv

All you need is a MiraCast or Chromecast adapter. Both are compatible with the S8/S8+. I use the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter when I'm traveling to plug into my hotel room's TV. The downside to the MSFT adapter is that it needs a USB port for power. If your TV doesn't have A USB port then you'll need a USB wall charger and a USB extension cable.

Just Google MiraCast adapter.

USB-C includes power, data and audio/video. That's why device makers are switching to it. The problem is whether or not a manufacturer fully implements it. For example, the GoPro Hero 5 Black has both a USB-C and mini HDMI connectors. The USB-C port is used for power and data, while the HDMI is used for audio/video output.

Samsung fully implemented USB-C on the S8/S8+.

Well depends on what you want to do. For instance I at times will have YouTube show up on the TV by connecting to either my Roku or Firebox (depends what room I am in). Don't see why with other things since I can access everything else on my Roku and Firebox (Plex; Netfliix; Prime; etc.) I also can access YouTube on the TV directly but easier to search on the phone and then have it show on the TV.

It's works on my S8. See type C to HDMI.

That's what I use. I got it for $17 on Amazon and it works great!

Only weird issue is that despite being USB-C (obviously), it only works when I plug it in one way. Which is sort of annoying because the whole idea of USB-C is that it's symmetric.
