ok so i turned my phone on to use a certain app which i have used and has no purpose in accessing my camera. anyway as soon as i opened the app my phone looked as though it had taken a screenshot. there is no way i could have done it because to do so i would specifically have to press 2 different buttons one on each side of the phone and half the time when i try this i wind up pressing a wrong one anyway. so i looked in my phone gallery for the pic and its not there. so my question is where did this screenshot go cause i would think it had to have gone somewhere and why would my ohone do that because i dont think phones just do things by themselves. at least i didnt think they did but with this new technology maye my phone is smarter than i thought and its actually planning to rule the world or something? just kidding- but serious on the question......i have a galaxy s8 if that makes a difference.

Hello, I just had a similar issue on Instagram. A friend sent me a picture by DM, I opened it and maxed the luminosity and she told me I had taken a screenshot but I never pressed any button to take a screenshot. I can't find the screenshot in my screenshot folder. Could it be that scrolling the shortcut menu made the phone take a screenshot? My phone is a Moto 5G
In Instagram DM if the other person got a message you screenshot then it happened because it can happen by accident instantly , possible your device didn't save it

My note 5 just did this.. the way I found the pic was using ES file explorer... it's been happening alot apparently... I'm not happy and am wondering which app is doing this...

There are gestures that can take screen shots as well, maybe you have one set. Like a 3 finger swipe down as an example. Also for it not showing up in gallery maybe your gallery doesn't have that folder included as folders to display. You can add it in the gallery app settings usually.

It happens to me when I open Verizon messaging app and OfferUp. I first noticed it after downloading OfferUp, but doubted myself after checking and seeing all permissions were still denied. Now it says "could not capture screenshot due to low memory", and I know I was right. The strange part is that I can't find these screenshots anywhere on my phone. It would make sense that the file would be full, as I've had this phone for over two years now. It doesn't make sense that I can't find any evidence of these photos in even the dark corners of my phone.

I've noticed this as well. Currently it happens when I have the Google Chrome app open, and possibly Canvas student too. I'm going to continue troubleshooting this today. I'm grateful I found this thread because someone is certainly monitoring and capturing data when I have all diagnostic settings turned off, making this illegal.
