Phone will only charge on car plug

[Android Central Question]

My Samsung Rugby will only charge on the cigarette lighter plug adapter in my car and only on 1 cord. I have taken the same cord and plugged into various cubes and usb ports and it will not charge. Also have tried cords that my wife uses and it will not charge. Only charges in the car.

Something going on with the charger port , you try in safe mode to rule out anything?

Welcome to Android Central! Make sure the USB port is clear of any debris -- use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a small Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts.

It could also be that, due to rough handling, and the age of the phone, the port isn't making good contact on both power pins. That would require having the port replaced, which wouldn't pay on such an old phone (it's almost 7.5 years old).
