Dropped my phone in the swimming pool, but managed to revive it by placing it some dry rice and a desiccant for about 7 hours.

Phone is working well apart from the fact that the touch screen only works once. (i.e. When I first turn on the device, I am able to use the touch screen, however, after locking the phone, at the next try, the touch screen does not work). The side buttons still work, not sure if there is sound as my phone is eternally on vibrate..

Help would be greatly appreciated!!

You messed up...only put in rice for 7 hours. Needed to be 48 hours..you probably messed it up for good

Take battery out and put phone/battery in zip lock bag of rice for 48 hours. If that doesn't help you need to replace it

No. Use rice and leave it for at least 48 hours.

I tried, but the touch screen only worked for a while after taking it out from the rice.

I'm considering bringing it to the service centre, but I hope that my files would still be intact..

I have brought my phone to Samsung's service centre, they told me it would cost about $600 to fix it. S

Should I continue with the repair or should I try leaving it longer in rice?

If it has been several days Rice will not help at this point. If I were you just go to WalMart and buy a new S3 for a couple of hundred dollars and get Insurance. The S3 can be purchased for a lot less than $600.
