Phonescoop evolution 3d review is up.

Weird, maybe they jumped the gun and got a slap on the wrist from Sprint? Maybe they didn't like the comments he made about the reception issue, if that issue really exists. I wonder when the magic day is when all the reviews will flood on in?

Did anyone notice his comment about poor audio for phone calls? At first I thought it might be related to poor signal but he made the exact same comment for the sensation. I hope this isn't the case.

he also said he lives in an area with 1bar of sprint service so you kinda have to keep that in mind. A review in full service area with poor quality is another story however.

Yeah that would suck. None of my sprint phones had reception issues so far, so having one now would be unacceptable.

I was pumped about his review of the camera. Sounds really good to me. Report of dropped calls worries me... think I'll switch to AT&T. :)

Pretty good review, the coverage issue may be depending on your area I would imagine.. Sprint does have a section on their website which gauges, seems pretty good. I looked up my area and found it looks to have really strong 4G & 3G coverage.

Sprint - Nationwide Coverage

Whether or not this is accurate, I'm not sure. I'm sold on the Evo 3D.. been tearing me apart deciding between the Galaxy S 2 and Evo 3D for a few weeks now.

take those maps with a grain of salt. I live in an exceptional 3G area according to them and which is why i switched carriers. Unfortunately it is truly poor service area.

I would say try to test drive a sprint phone to see. you get 30days I think it switching from a new carrier

There's no question that the 3D powers are an appealing feature of the EVO 3D. Taking 3D images and 3D video offers that "wow" feeling almost each and every time, and makes even the most mundane subjects somehow more interesting. It helps that the EVO 3D's camera is top notch. Even if the EVO 3D were a 2D-only shooter, it would be worth recommending for the camera performance alone. Obviously, there's more to consider.

My biggest gripe with the EVO 3D is the wireless performance, It's bad enough that the WiMax radio barely worked, but add to that poor 3G performance, and poor voice performance, and you've almost killed off all the reasons to buy any phone. Crummy battery life doesn't help, either.

Aside from the 3D features, the EVO 3D's best feature is HTC's Sense 3.0 user interface. Sense 3.0 is fantastic, and makes the EVO 3D a highly capable and customizable smartphone.

In the end, it boils down to what's most important for you. If you value performance of the wireless radio more than anything else, the EVO 3D is not for you. If you don't mind some sketchy behavior and are lusting after that 3D camera, I won't blame you.r

That's from the phone scoop review. So I mean, we cant and shouldnt minimalize his comments about the radio. Obviously, he repeats it enough times in closing statements that it is big enough issue. But I agree with consensus here, let's wait and see what others say about it.

That;'s why i mention the audio issue with the sensation where he had 3 bars.

For those of you that missed it, quick summary:

Positives:

-amazing camera, even 3d images look stunning
-fastest phone he has EVER used
-beautiful screen, one of the best he has ever seen

Negatives:

-that reception issue everyone is worried about
-battery life is better than the evo, but not as great as he thought (could also be a positive because it lasted him all day)

I'll wait for a better site than Phonescoop to review it. Maybe someone that actually lives in a Sprint covered area. I wouldn't judge this the Nexus S part 2 just yet. We'll see soon.

You shoudnt judge this the nexus s part 2 because.... Well, it isn't the nexus S. It's an EVO.

It was pretty long and would be difficult to post in a forum...may make some MODS upset and even break some rules as it is not a link and the publishing website pulled it.

Honestly he griped alot about reception even though he admitted he was in a 1 bar area. I suspect the reviewer jumped the gun and is editing his review.

Other posters here have summarized what was said...I do understnad the desire to read ANY review on the 3D as there really aren't any out.

When I read it last night I was hoping AC would have theirs up today and even Engadget but that sure didn't happen.

Even with decent reception; audio for phone mode was very very poor (check his review for the sensation it has the same issue)

Bet HTC and/or Sprint threatened them to pull it. No one else is nervous there are NO reviews for the phone and its only 9 days from launch? Sounds to me like they dont want it reviewed early and probably because it has a ton of issues. Here is what the reviewer said....

"First, WiMax performance. The 4G radio can find Sprint's WiMax network, but not very consistently. Using the phone in New York City on two separate occasions, it connected to the WiMax network lickety-split, held onto it for a minute, and then dropped it. I wasn't able to reconnect to the 4G network for several moments. The rest of the time I was in NYC, the signal waffled between 4G and 3G, as though it couldn't decide which network it preferred. Data speeds and browser performance were, understandably, inconsistent. When it was connected to WiMax, it was fast. When it wasn't, things slowed down.

As for 3G, out in NJ where 4G isn't live yet, I was able to spend a weekend with the EVO 3D using EVDO-only coverage. How well did this work? In a word: disaster. The EVO 3D barely held onto one bar most of the time. This led to missed calls, plenty of repeat dials, and several dropped calls. Not good. As for 3G data performance, it was better than voice performance for sure. Speeds were decent, and 3G browsing sessions were acceptably quick, even with only one bar. At my home in NJ, one bar is pretty typical for Sprint. It performed on par with other Sprint 3G devices."
