I saw the product on Shark Tank last week. It's a case you put your phone in and in 5 minutes it's sanitized via UV light/rays. I'm not going to put a link to it so as not to be accused of spam but you can google it. I think there is a new version out. Anyone here have one and care to let us know what you think of it?
Thanks

If you are that worried about bacteria I would say stay home in a bubble.

@monicakm - I've been using Phonesoap for years and I love it. I just got a new one a few weeks ago because my last one died that I had been using for the last few years. My new one is bigger. I didn't get the new huge one for tablets though. I do recommend it.

@mhinc - It is obvious you are very clueless about the world. Your phone is the dirtiest thing you will ever come in contact with, dirtier than most toilets and people have their hands and faces all over it. Staying inside wouldn't help that. You should feel very proud of your obviously incredible immune system, I hope it never turns on you.

Nah. It's paranoia. No matter how "dirty" you perceive your phone is, the bacteria you'll find there are normal flora of the skin anyway. There may be a lot, but nothing will get rid of them for good anyway.

Yes there is that ... AND cold and flu viri can be spread via living on your phones surfaces if you come in contact with people that have those viri. That is also not to mention that other things that can be found on phones. Have you ever worked in an office and interact with people or have to shake hands etc. You know chances are many of those people you interact with at work do not wash their hands even after using the bathroom, that easily spreads E.coli and other pathogens.

If you think it is just skin flora, you are just kidding yourself.

Please. I work in a hospital. We have more flora than you can think of. The main reason I see the problem here is you're letting other people use your phone. In a normal setting (at least for most of the people I know), we barely touch each other's phones. Second, the more you think you are separating yourself from the infective sources, the more susceptible you are to the infection. Your immune system works best if you allow pathogens to be introduced to it in minute amounts, so that it can build resistance. While all of those things in those articles are true, their importance is quite exaggerated. All you have to do is keep your own hands clean. Putting your phone in that thing every 30min is too much more an effort rather than simply cleaning your hands after doing anything that would get it dirty. If your hands are always clean, and no other hands touch your phone, all this becomes is a waste of money.

Ok I never let anyone use my phone and never said I did. Everything your hands come in contact with ends up on that phone and you can't constantly wash your hands all day long - it isn't practical. I know how immune systems work. You yourself, who works in a hospital, must be familiar with the concept of compromised immune systems and no amount of germ immersion therapy is going to make that go away short term. Also, this Phonesoap thing, or rather using UVC light in general is an accepted practice of sterilization which is also used in hospitals around the world. I'm not talking about cleaning my phone every 5 minutes either, just once when I get home at the end of my work day does the job of removing a whole days build up.

I try to do the best I can by myself, but what's wrong with wanting a little more help and assurance. It may not be for you, but not everything in this world is designed to your liking.

Seems like a waste of money. Ten minutes after sterilizing the phone it's just as dirty as it was before.. Put it in your car console? Dirty. Vent mount? Dirty. If you have to keep it germ free, you better live in a bubble.

We are so scared of the bacteria. We need bacteria. Lots of it. Only a tiny percentage of bacteria strains are actually harmful and if you have some of that in your pockets, purse or anywhere else you keep your phone, you've got bigger problems than a dirty phone.

The bacteria are all over your house too. It's not possible or practical to sterilize your entire house.

One little problem in the real world - the moment you take the phone out of the case it's re-"infected" with all the trillions of bacteria that are floating around in the air. Even "Bubble Boy" has some bacteria he had to fight off. (Drink triple-distilled water that's been treated with UV and you're ingesting bacteria.)

All the bacteria you cleaned off from your phone also reside in the pocket where you placed your phone in after cleaning. The moment you put it in your pocket, its reinfected, and it's not yet even a minute after cleaning. Basically, the phone is as dirty after cleaning as before.

UV is an accepted method of cleaning yes, but your practices make it all moot. After cleaning, you should not let it touch anything 'unclean'. But wait, you place it back in your pocket or purse where all the siblings of the bacteria you removed are. Lol. Waste of money.

The reason I HAVE a fantastic immune system is for that exact reason, and the same reason my child goes out and plays in the dirt, and doesn't get packed full of antibiotics the second she gets a sniffle. Being around bacteria, such as what my phone acquires, is exactly how one builds up an amazing immune system. What is this world coming to when you need a UV Box to disinfect your bloody phone!
And for the record no one touches my cell phone except for me, and even if they did I still wouldn't radiate it with UV light. Christ I spit on my phone and clean it with a Micro fibre cloth.

I hope OP sterilizes everything they ever come into contact as well or otherwise just defeating their own purpose. Literally germs and bacteria EVERYWHERE.

No, the OP doesn't sterilize everything she comes in contact with. And yes, I know a certain amt of germs are necessary and that I can't eradicate all germs out of my life. But...there's no need to just throw caution to the wind and lick cart handles at Walmart during flu season <g>

Yes! Used to sterilize hospital equipment! Not a frickin' cell phone! Maybe next you should buy and Autoclave to make sure your silverware is sterilized, you know because other people have eaten with them? Heck why not just install some UTC lights all over your home, because if you think you are helping yourself by just cleaning your phone you have another thing coming! Give your head a shake and go back to your bubble.
If you have children, I feel sorry for them, because paranoid germaphobes like yourself that feel the need to sterilize your cell phone, are the same people that have kids with massive allergies, because they are pampered and babied and not given the chance to build up an immune system.

I had one of the smaller original ones. I didn't use it for phones, though.

It was great for sterilizing feeding clips for my shrimp quarantine tank, and about $200 cheaper than buying basically the same thing designed for aquarium equipment.

Using it for 5 minutes twice a day worked great for about 6 months, then the lamps needed replaced — or my swab and culture methods sucked, which is very possible. I'm not a biologist or a doctor, just some dude who spent too much on getting some high-grade shrimp (these, because I know someone is gonna ask) imported from Japan and did what I could to keep from killing them.

The shrimp colony is doing fine, but I have no idea if I owe any of that to phonesoap :P

That's what the sterilize feature on a dishwasher is for

I have Multiple Sclerosis. Do you know what a stomach virus or the flu would do to me? Of course you don't. It appears to be beyond your grasp to think there may be someone out there that might have different needs than your own. You seem to see things in black and white...no middle ground. No one thinks that cleaning one's cell phone would eliminate all germs from your life but there is a very good chance it would certainly help. And yes, I'm one of those weirdos that wipe the Walmart cart handle with the provided wipes. How stupid on their part! If more people got colds, the flu or stomach virus, they'd sell more medicine. I (not as often as I should) wipe the steering wheel of my car. I have Tapmasters (turning on/off water with the press of my toe against a plate attached to the toekick) installed at all the sinks in my home. Not only is it uber convenient and increases workflow, but it prevents cross contamination with things that can cause food poisoning and other illnesses. Hospitals must consider this important since they use them as well. And the best line of defense, I wash my hands several times a day. I'm not a "germaphobe". I'm practicing common sense!

If you have children, I feel sorry for them, because paranoid germaphobes like yourself that feel the need to sterilize your cell phone, are the same people that have kids with massive allergies, because they are pampered and babied and not given the chance to build up an immune system.

Oh for the love of Pete! I hope you're not teaching your children (provided you have any) to be as rude!
