Photo icon display problem

Man, I just can't find a fix...and I know it must be a simple one.

When I connect my Note 2 to my computer via USB or Kies, my photo icons are all the same generic one. How can I change it to show me thumbnails of the actual photos?
Photos are stored on my SD card, not internal. I had a tip to go to settings/USB utilities, but I'm not seeing it on my ATT version.

I would like to know if you found the answer to this question as this is what I am searching for tonight.
I have made sure that it should display thumbnails from the computer itself and it seems like you should be able to change the way it reconize the device via usb settings on the phone but I can not find this option.
Any help would be appreciated.

No solution yet. I have been able to see thumbnails using Kies and a USB cable directly into my computer. I don't understand why you can't hook up into your computer via USB cable, open the photo file, and see thumbnail previews.
