Des, self-claimed “Senor Product Guy” at T-Mobile, has tweeted a picture of the Nexus 6 with Wi-Fi calling.


Also, sounds like there is a chance of this becoming baked into Android's OS for other phones...

Maybe this is related with VoLTE support. Google announces Android 5.1, includes VoLTE - TMoRocks

However, the update also included a long-awaited feature for T-Mobile (and Verizon) Nexus 6 users: voice over LTE support also know as HD Voice. With VoLTE now active on the Nexus 6, users on T-Mobile’s new 700 MHz network will no longer be without calling or texting service if they are outside the reach of T-Mobile’s AWS and PCS networks.

Related? Somewhat. But VOLTE is out, and WiFi Calling is not.

I've noticed the little "HD" on my screen when on some calls. Is this gong to burn through my data? If so, I don't want it. Can you disable it?

The 'HD' stands for High Definition calling, for clearer sound on ordinary voice calls. Works pretty well and has nothing to do with data usage. A freebie.

Yeah... HD Audio was a feature T-Mobile has had for a while now. It's specific to T-Mobile and would only appear when calling another supported T-Mobile phone. It doesn't affect your data.

1st quarter of 2015. That means soon, very soon. My gut feeling is they're waiting for the update to 5.1 to finish rolling out, which preps the Nexus 6 for WiFi calling, then the additional update for WiFi calling will follow more or less immediately.

As I write this, my wife's Nexus 6 is installing 5.1. So we shall see...

Exactly. The LMY47M build of 5.1 does contain some code that prepares the Nexus 6 for WiFi calling, which will come in a separate update.
