was just reading the review on the moto photon on bgr and they said it would be 199 with two year contract, if the bionic is essentially the same phone, why would verizon deem it necessary to charge 100 dollars more? is the bionic gonna have a surprise we dont know about? sprint has better negotiating team than verizon? 4g radio over wimax radio? just wondering why the bionic would cost so much more.

I think we have threads on this. The general consensus is the Bionic will have Verizon LTE and the Photon will be on Sprints 4G WIMAX which is essentially garbage compared to big Red's 4G LTE and they feel it's appropriate to raise their contract prices.

VZW needs to finance their LTE network some how.

BTW -- $100.00 over the life of a 2 year contract is just a drop in the bucket when you look at the entire cost of ownership.

The LTE chips are expensive. Also take in to account that Verizon does not charge extra for 4G so maybe they are making up some of that cost in more expensive phones.

Doesn't bother me. I would rather the difference paid up front than dragged on in the month to month. $299 is not a problem.

damn, a suprise 4.5 inch screen would of been a nice surprise but instead its more expensive cuz they can charge more and a lte radio

IT'S NOT THE SAME PHONE. It's similar, but it's not the same. It's not quite up to Bionic specs as we know them and it's on an inferior network.

Sprint Charges $15 a month for a sub-par 4G. Over two years that's $360. So, you can have a Bionic for $299 or a Photon for $560.

That last statement makes zero sense. I have both a verizon and a sprint line. The verizon 4g is much quicker but the wimax isn't a slouch. And not sure what math you are using but sprint is overall much cheaper over 2 years than verizon even after the $10 premium data charge.

Im fairly certain new smartphones on Sprint's network require $30 data package... just like Verizon...

They can charge however much they like, but obviously can't charge too much or no one will buy it. Isn't the Charge $300? The Bionic is much better spec wise, and you're paying the same price. Doesn't seem overpriced to me, but it is more expensive. Overpriced and having less money to spend are two different things.
Plus $100 over the course of 2 years? Wouldn't you rather have a better phone if you're stuck with it for 2 years?

The Charge is $189 every day on Amazon. Verizon can charge whatever they want, just don't buy it. The early adopters always pay a premium and deal with buggy software until updates roll out. There is no reason anyone has to buy a Bionic right away. Its a discretionary luxury when you can get another smartphone for much much less.

I just love how people are sooooo worried about how I, or anyone else here for that matter, spend their money.

It does, however you pay a $10 (Sorry, I said $15 previous post) to use their 4G service. Sprint charges a premium over standard data charges.

actually the 15$ is a smartphone data addon you need it for all androids as of when they started even 3g.

Sure, it is a discretionary luxury item if you are living in your Mom's basement.

Some of us need a high-tier mobile communications device and our old phones are ready for replacement and we want to buy the most future-ready product available within a reasonable time-frame.

Personally if you or I want to overpay what does it hurt them? I mean they are saving money so who cares if I want to spend an extra 100 bucks lol.

Ha so true the thing is they say wait because maybe they dont have the $300 to spend for the phone or just don't want to deal with verizon. I mean what makes it any different if I buy it on launch day and it receives the update a week later and you wait 2 weeks to get it cheaper? It will still both have the updates its not like the launch day phones never get updates.
