Hope I chose the right place to post this - not trolling, just need good information
I'm due for my phone upgrade next week from Sprint - don't really want to switch providers.
Currently using an HTC Hero, rooted, running CM 7.1.0. I'm taxing the Hero beyond its capability at this point and need a new phone that will multitask and function without delays, lags, etc.
What's important to me:
1) Speed and response - which in many ways I guess translates to RAM and storage.
2) ICS upgrade - I rooted my Hero in the first place to gain functionality and app access (i.e. Google Music) not accorded me by HTC and Sprint when they decided not to update the Hero anymore. I will not buy another HTC phone BTW. I want the latest and greatest OS possible for now - can't predict too far into the future. I'm also kind of hooked on the root - but I don't necessarily need to root my new phone.
3) Reliability/Flexibility - on calls, functionality, media, online and general multi-task usage. Just need it to work well, work fast, and not jam up and freeze all the time if I switch too quickly from Voice Mail to make a call.
After reading froums (thanks!) and doing much research, I've narrowed it to three phones, but I don't have a lot to spend, so I'm hoping some New Year sale or something will make these all affordable for me (If I could spend whatever, I'd wait for a Sprint Galaxy Nexus).
Nexus S 4G - has the "stuff" to meet my needs, I know (at least I'm pretty sure) it will at least get ICS at some point. Closest to root without root, I think? Do I understand it has no expandable storage - internal only? That may be a concern.
The Photon 4G - looks like a great phone, reasonably affordable, near latest and greatest. Has the "stuff" to meet needs. How is the qHD (Pentile?) display comparable to the others? I know its to each his own, but what does the majority say?
Galaxy S 2 yada - looks good, has the stuff, not sure about getting ICS, and it might end up a little more than I can spend. Can't really find a reason not to like this phone except concerns about ICS and price (for me - I'm poor). May be kind of big.
Leaning toward the Nexus S 4G, but the other two are making it a very difficult choice.
Assuming some deal comes along and eliminates affordability as an issue, which should I choose?
Any advice, pros/cons, other useful info will be greatly appreciated. I know I can count on you techsperts to steer me in a good direction.
I'm in no way looking to debate or start an argument - just looking for that one or two bits of info that will maybe help push me over the line on a phone.
