Photon Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Great read!

I switched from my Pre- after having it just over two years. I wanted a new webos phone but when HP made their announcement, I decided to leave.

There are a lot of great things about the Photon but after 2+ weeks there are still things I really miss about my Pre.

That's why I have a MoPho, too.

Me too, buddy. Me too. That said, I think the gains outweigh the losses.

I agree. The gains do outweigh the losses. I like k9 email. Love all the apps. Love the hardware. The dolphin hd browser is amazing.

I really miss the cards. More than i thought i would. Its great to keep an email or web page open to refer to when on the phone or texting.

I really really miss the keyboard.

I really really really miss the touchstones. I had one at my desk, one in my car and one on my nightstand. Those who havent used them won't understand.

What advantages does the dolphin browser offer over the stock one? I've been pretty happy with the stock one so far but I am the adventurous type. ;-)

I tried all the browsers that I could find in the Marketplace: Opera, Opera Mini, Dolphin Mini, Dolphin HD, Firefox and Skyfire,

I liked the Dolphin HD the best because it was fast (not that others weren't), flash can be set to start only on demand, tabbed browsing and there are lots of useful plugins that can be added. Dolphin HD also incorporates hand gestures. For instance, I have it set up to return to my home page if I draw an "h" on the screen or if I draw a "y" it takes me to m.yahoo.com. You can have lots of different actions based on gestures.

Give them all a try. If you don't like one you can uninstall.

It was easy using the Pre with one hand. But with the Photon, my thumb hurts. Anybody else have this problem?

My thumbs don't hurt but i simply cannot type on the MoPho with one hand. If i do there are just too many typos. I have to type landscape with two thumbs to have any chance of typing real words. As you can see from this post, i still haven't gotten used to my phone not automatically capitalizing an i alone.

Switching to Go Keyboard took care of my capitalization issues and I can now type fast and accurately with one hand. OH YEAH!

Now, if I can only find away to create auto text entries (ie. "iop" = "I am on the plane and can't wait to see you soon!") that can be used with Go Keyboard, I would be too awesome!

Interesting. I have go keyboard and my i does not automatically capitalize. I i i i. Have i missed something in the settings?

I miss u defaulting to you as well.

I'm using swype. The typos are really weird, but I can type with just my index finger. Usually, I hold the phone in my other hand, but sometimes I leave it stuck on my old touchstone, or just lying on the desk.

I keep trying to use Swype since so many people rave about it but I create waay more typos than with Go Keyboard. It think it is because my fingers are so big that I drag across too many keys at the same time.

Yes, I really miss "u" defaulting to "you" too! Any known fixes other than using Smart Keyboard Pro? For some reason, I am much faster and more accurate with Go Keyboard than with Smart Keyboard by a long shot!

I gave up on swiftkey because it created so many weird typos. My favorite feature of swype is that if you tap instead of swiping it enters exactly the letters you typed, with no guessing. So I never get stuck fighting with it. If I don't get the word I wanted in two tries, I just tap slowly. It also learns your vocabulary, so it gets easier to use it with time. Dragging a lot of keys probably isn't a serious problem, as you often get the right word when you miss a key or two completely. Except that it frequently types "out" when I want "it" or "or", I'm getting decent accuracy. I still find it more tedious than using a physical keyboard, but my speed is improving. It's worth giving it a couple of tries, imo.

Yes, I liked SwiftKey waay better than the stock 3VO keyboard but when I moved to the Photon, I liked its stock keyboard better than SwiftKey. Now, I'm in love Go Keyboard. The only thing missing is the ability to add auto text entries. Once someone makes that possible, I will have reached PERFECTION! :D

Ok. I've had this phone for just over two weeks. It is truly an amazing phone. As much as i miss the cards and my touchstones, I'm adjusting. I just can't seem to get over the keyboard. I have tried several in the marketplace and go keyboard seems to work the best for me but i picked up my Pre last night and messed with it a bit. I was soooo much faster and more accurate with the physical keyboard. I have about two weeks left before my 30 days is up and i will not be able to return it. How long did it take for you guys to adjust?

Im seriously considering returning the MoPho and waiting for the rumored Pax.

In my opinion, the MoPho is too HOT to return just due to the lack of a physical keyboard. Before this phone, I swore by a physical keyboard. It definitely took some time to adjust and I'm still adjusting. However, after using Go Keyboard for about 3 weeks now, I believe I can probably type faster and more accurate with it than I could with the Pre's physical keyboard. I should probably test myself! lol
