Question Photos Format

I am running stock Android 11 on a Nokia 4.2 phone.

I prefer my still photos to be in the JPG format for ease of sharing, manipulation etc. The photos always appear in some weird format which I can only open in Windows Paint, and then have to "save as" jpg, so that I cna manipulate in my photos editor of choise - Paint Shop. Win Paint does not show what format the photos are in by default.

I cannot find any setting in the Android camera app to save my photos ae jpg's by default.

Where is it?

Are the photos being saved in HEIC, which is a newer compressed format (and uses space more efficiently)?

I have looked in Camera app - settings but there are no options to change the picture format.

I have an HMD Vibe, which is essentially Nokia. In my Camera app's settings, there's an option for "HEIF format." Can you show us a screenshot of all of your Camera app's settings? Make sure to scroll all the way down.
