Its setup for slide show for some reason from Samsung, I don't know how to change or if you can. Your best bet would be using a third party messaging app like Handcent or Go sms.

I thought that they released a fix for that on the international phones, and I assumed it was coming to the US versions with Jelly Bean, but it's not there.
