Pick up the N4? Advice?

Hi everyone, so I'm contemplating picking up an N4 in July, but im concerned w/ the age of the phone.

I currently have a semi-busted Nexus S 4g (sprint) that is a pain in the **** as a daily driver. If it were running smoothly, I would ideally keep the phone until late-fall/early-winter in hopes of picking up the new Nexus (hopefully). The busted phone is forcing me to pick up something earlier than I'd like.

So... my plan would be to pick up an N4 on T-mo, but with the hopes of re-selling it on ebay when the new Nexus comes out. This seems to be my only viable option, as the google edition S4 and HTC One are too expensive for me right now (and probably forever).

What do you think? How will the resale value of an N4 hold up when the new Nexus is announced? What are your experiences w/ buying and selling phones on Ebay?

Separately, why are N4s going for the same or higher price on ebay compared to the play store? Thanks!

resale value with android phones just isnt there usually but this device has plenty of life in it. It has a quad core processor and 2 gb of ram so it will easily handle googles next update and is right on par with current flagships. But then again the phone only cost $350 unlocked and no contract so you can buy it use it until you fancy something new and keep it or sell it but you wont have used an upgrade which is always good.

Nexus phones always have the best resale value of any Android phone. That has been my experience. The Galaxy nexus held it's value far longer than it's contemporaries (The Rezound, LG Spectrum, and Razr). They are still in demand on phone swap sites.

Because the play store is not financing you. People are willing to pay more for financing. eBay (for example) uses Bill me Later, which is a 0% financing service from paypal. You cannot use that on the Play store...they want the total amount up front.

Don't confuse actual usability with the hype of "Look What is Out NOW!!!"

The N4 has solid hardware that will handle any software coming out for a few years. And the early updates from Google insure that better than any other OEM phone.

In regards to the post above, I picked up the Nexus S 4g a few months after it was released (at least an entire 1/2 year after the original Nexus S came out), and I haven't quite made a full 2 years on my contract...things changed very quickly and I do not want to be put in that situation again... the only way to prevent that I think is to get the best phone at the time (if affordable).

If i could I'd get an S4 or One google edition and be done w/ it... however that is way too pricey for me upfront.

The spec on processor/GPU and RAM between the N4, the S4 and the One is so close that the price doesn't justify the switch away from N4. Quadcore krait @ 15,GHz and an Adreno 320 coupled with 2GB RAM should enable you to run most anything software wise that will be coming soon... I fail to see the lack of computing power.

The Nexus S only had a single core CPU at 1 GHZ and 512MB RAM - in 2010 that was a bit less on par with flagship phones. I think Google learned from that and upped their game spec-wise on the Gnex and N4... Just my humble opinion.

I think thats subjective. Had they been available, I certain would have bought either over a Nexus 4.

Samsung: Dramatically larger storage options, more sensors (IR), 1080p AMOLED display, better camera, upgradable battery. In addition to the faster CPU.

HTC: Superior display, significantly better camera, larger internal storage, front stereo speakers, better (more durable) case, in addition to a faster CPU.

Yes, that is worth an extra $300 to me. And I suspect to a lot of other people. I think demand for these phones will be higher than a lot of people think.

I switched from Sprint to Solavei (T-Mobile MVNO) in January and wouldn't dream of going back.

I haven't sold phones on ebay, but I have sold other electronics. I've always thought the resale value was pretty high - higher than I'd pay. But that's subjective.

Depending on how you use your phone, you might find the Nexus 4 more than suits your needs, and you won't want to upgrade when the New Nexus comes out...
