Picking up a lot of dust?

I had my S8 for a year and a half and I only had a case not a screen shield. I decided to get a shield for my Note 9 that I've had for a couple weeks now and I've noticed my Zagg shield has a lot of dust and the like a long the left and right edges. I tried taking it off but since the sides are sticky I can't get the dust off the shield so I just put it back on. Is this normal?
