Pics while taking video

I really like how you can take still pictures while recording video. If you don't know how, just tap the video you are recording (on the screen) and bam, a still is taken.

Haha wow I was wondering why do I have pictures of the video I just took. I thought it just did it periodically, and I am used to tapping on the screen to focus (coming from a Tbolt)

Is it just me, or are still taken during 1080p recording better overall than the normal stills?? Mine seem more saturated, cleaner, and sharper.
