Hi Guys.

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to play a YouTube video and then exit out of it to keep it playing on the screen while I do something else.

Everytime I press the Home Button it just closes out YouTube and goes to my home screen.

Not the split screen feature.

I've checked in my apps settings and its allowed.

That's weird, the Home button should do the trick. Just tried on mine, it does. Video needs to be playing, of course (if you're just in the preview/comments window and the video is paused, it will close the window, not pop up the video in PiP.

Try as I might it won't work.

Do you think I may have missed a settimg somewhere ?

I use normal youtube and not the premium version.

if you are watching normal(non music) videos it should already work when you exit YouTube

Try clearing YouTube's data/cache and turning the Pip on /off
I just tried and even the back button works for Pip.

It's working with Google Maps but not YouTube for some reason.

It looks like its limited to USA, looking at a video from a few months ago it seems you have to have youtube premium to have music videos run in PIP but any other video (using Android Oreo and above) in the US.

Looks like I'll just need to open my recents button and long hold the YouTube tab and drag that into the pop up box.

A more long winded approach but gives the same result.

Do any other video apps with PiP support work? Is it just YouTube?

It works fine for me. Do you also have background playback set to Always On in the YouTube settings? I believe that needs to be enabled as well.

Also, in the General settings from the YouTube app there is also a Picture-in-picture setting to enable. I know you mentioned it but your screenshot is of the System App settings not sure if that's the same as to what's actually in the app.

Was it working before?
Uninstall the update and try before updating again in play store or try after it updates also

Ah yeah looks like it's only a US option for now. So it won't work natively by the app only the work around you mentioned when in the app switcher which is Samsung giving that option.

Or use a VPN and set your location in the YouTube app to USA

You can put it in a pop up window if it doesnt automatically do it.

If not mistaken isn't that a YouTube premium feature?

It's in the General settings in the YouTube app. See pic. I guess some regions/carriers have it limited though.

It requires some configuring but i use [app name redacted by Mod] and i have no issues with PIP.
