Picture issue

New to android from iPhone and have a picture issue. I've used handcent and gosms and with both apps I had the same problem. When I take a picture with my s4 and go to send it using either of these apps the picture end up getting sent sideways and in a lower size. If I use the stock messaging app I don't have any problems. I'd much rather use one of the apps out of the play store I previously mentioned for the quick reply feature and better UI design. Any insights on how to fix this issue is greatly appreciated!
