picture messages with mobile network off

I cant get any picture messages when I have mobile network turned off. I thought Wifi would take care of this but I it wont. Once I get a pic. message it wont download or even allow me to turn moblie on. I have to turn phone off then restart to be able to turn the network on and download the message.. Any ideas or is this how it works? Thanks

On the Droid this works because it allows for simultaneous Wi-Fi and WWAN connections. MMS messages can only be downloaded over the WWAN. When you have Wi-Fi enabled on the Eris, do you still see the WWAN data arrows? If not, I would imagine your Eris is doing the exact same thing all my other HTC devices did when I had tried to receive or send when my Wi-Fi was turned on (and I'm not aware of any workaround).

ahh bummer well I just turned auto download off, when I receive 1 I will just enable network and download it. thanks
