Pictures randomly deleted

I discovered yesterday that nearly 1000 pictures had randomly disappeared from my pictures folder. The photos had been imported from a Sony point-and-shoot camera using an OTG cable with a SD card reader and the app Nexus Media Importer. There is no previous history of problems.

The device I am using is an Asus Nexus 7 (not rooted) with android version 4.2.2. My pictures folder currently holds 5.4gb and my device has 15.05gb/27.58gb available.

I have searched the internet looking for people with similar issues or solutions, however, my search is usually overwhelmed by people with the opposite problem or the pictures were taken via the internal camera and all that was required was fishing the lost pictures out of the DCIM folder with a PC. My pictures never touched the DCIM folder. They were imported directly to pictures. Yesterday I had preformed the third import of pictures and for some reason lost the first and part of the second. I can't find anything on size restrictions that applies or anything really. The only thing that is interesting is that a sub folder of some of the lost pictures survived.

If anyone know of a way to recover or can at least explain what happened, I would greatly appreciate it.

That has nothing to do with what I am talking about internet robot.

Is this a problem with the app? A problem with the Android operating system? Is there a maximum number of items that can be held in a folder?

I would like to know why this happened. I didn't authorize a delete of any type.

If anyone has anything intelligent to say I will gladly listen.
