Pictures slightly grainy??

Hi.
(very) Long time BlackBerry user just converted to a 3 XL and loving it!!!

Quick question/observation please...

When I zoom in fully on phone and even on my desktop to look at my recently taken photos, they look slightly grainy at full zoom.....
Is this normal? They look fine if I don't zoom in (probably even better than fine) but I am slightly surprised to see any grain at all with the many rave reviews this phone gets in regards to the camera.

And in "night sight", before I snap the pic I see a ton of "noise". The pics mostly do end up looking fine tho. But even some of the night sights look really grainy after being taken.

Hopefully I am just being over critical, but wanted to hear what the rest of you think.

Well if you zooming in 100% then it's perfectly normal to see grainy pics. These are still smartphone cameras after all. Night sight still need some light to function best. It doesn't work in complete darkness nearly as well.

It's normal in night sight for the preview to appear noisy because the processing doesn't occur until after you take the shot.

The Pixel 3 has digital zoom, so yes if you zoom in, the phone is digitally cropping an image to create the zoomed effect and that means detail loss, which explains the 'grainy' imagery when zoomed.

He's zooming in the photos after they taken but same principle

Thanks everyone, guess things are fine!
Was maybe second guessing my decision over the Mate 20.
It did check a few more of the boxes, but the Google software won me over!
So far, really liking this phone, a lot!!!!
