Pinch to Zoom and Primary Icons

I read a review of the Captivate last night, but failed to bookmark the site and today cannot find it.

But...
The reviewer mentioned that the pinch to zoom ONLY works on the web browser. Can anyone confirm this? I would think that other apps would use pinch to zoom. I'm using an iPhone now and use it on images and while reading email.

The reviewer also mentioned that the bottom four icons cannot be changed. It shows phone, email, browser and applications. My current phone is set for phone, email, sms and calendar. I would be very disappointed if I cannot change this.

I'm usually a google supporter and would like to move to an android phone, but these are two important (to me) features.

AT&T has the best coverage for my typical travels, so I'm not ready to move to another carrier.

I have zero experiance with android, any advice?

I've seen so many first impression/unboxing videos now that I can't point to the specific one, but in one of them the guy making the video accidentally replaced one of the four bottom icons while he was trying to explore/show off another feature, so I'm fairly certain it can be done.

Also, I saw a review video this morning (again, can't remember which site) where the guy was talking about how pinch to zoom doesn't work outside of the web browser, but I got the impression he was just referring to TouchWiz, not to individual applications. If the web browser can do it, I'd expect other applications to be able to do it too, but who knows.

I've seen a video walkthrough of touchwiz where the guy was easily changing the 4 icons on the bottom. I've also seen videos of pinch to zoom working very smoothly in the gallery app. I can't speak for all the other apps, but definitely in the browser and gallery. I'd assume that it would work in most of the apps you would expect pinch-to-zoom to be in...because Samsung seems to have had their mind in the right place when making these phones.

A little progress..

I called a AT&T store, they said they had just received a few. I asked the sales guys name and how late he worked. Got stuck in a two hour traffic jam because of a major accident / fire in a work zone.

Long story short, they sold me a Captivate.

I'm impressed!

Pinch to zoom does not work in email, but it does work in gallery internet.

I have not yet found a way to change the bottom four icons.

A video I saw said that while you're in the app menu, press the menu icon, select "Custom grid" or something with the word custom in it, and then you can just move apps around willy nilly.

I did find the custom grid and can rearrange icons in the Apps menu. I then clicked on Edit and now many icons have a red minus sign, so it appears I can delete them. I did remove the browser icon and replaced it with calendar. It looks like I can change the first three icons (Phone, Email, browser.) I could not remove the Apps Icon from the bottom.

Haaha It's great to see I'm not the only one who spends hours sifting through an uncountable amount of review videos. For a while there I thought I was the only anxious one watching video after video..
