Pioneer display resolution —*why's it sqeezed?

[WARN]If you haven't seen this before, you won't be able to unsee it afterward. My apologies.[/WARN]

So math isn't really really my strong suit. But Android Auto screenshots are 480x800. The Kenwood resolution is 480x800. Except it's not. Everything is squeezed a tad vertically. You can especially tell on faces, and also on round buttons. (And once you notice this, you can see it everywhere else.)

So what the hell is the actual resolution of the display?

Did I miss something? I thought you had a Pioneer unit. Do you also have a Kenwood one now? Perhaps the DDX9902S?

800x480 seems to be the standard base resolution for Android Auto, and at roughly 15-16:9 for double DIN.

Image distortion is usually the result of custom DPIs usually seen on custom ROMs. Some older (or newer) CM12 ROMs are needed for example.

Android Auto seems to assume each phone has stock ROM DPI. It also seems to use the native H.264 (hw?) encoder of the phone (despite AA drawing to a virtual display), which ties it more deeply to the specific phone.

In many cases people can't even check the startup message boxes because they are "off screen".

Derp. Old radio — for, like 10 years — was Kenwood.

Well, all my stuff's stock. Like this on every phone, so the display isn't actually 16:9 then, right?

Re: Kenwood display resolution —*why's it sqeezed?

What phone ? Maybe it's not on Googles' AA supported list.

15-16:9 is I think the standard aspect ratio for AA HUs. I'd presume AA is able to handle phones with different aspect ratios.

But since AA seems to use hardware video encoder, now I'm thinking that aspect ratio mismatch might be responsible for some issues.

Been on every phone I've used. (And I've used a bunch. :p )
