I have had the pleasure of spending a little over a week with the Pitaka MagCase for the Pixel 2 XL. Let me just say, it is the absolute best case for the Pixel 2 XL by far.

The case is slim. Very slim. Even being this slim, it has protected the phone from the couple of drops that it has undergone since I got the case. The size is my favorite part of the MagCase. I enjoy using my Pixel 2 XL again because I’m getting to enjoy the form factor. This case does not interfere with the Invishield that has become a fan favorite either.

The plate in the back is perfect for my magnetic car mount. It’s nice not having to stick something between the phone and case or tape it to the outside. If you have ever considered a magnetic mount, DO IT! You won’t even notice that the plate is there, so I’ll let you know that it’s just under the fingerprint sensor.

The feel of the case is great as well. It feels like a premium case. It has a bit of grip that the phone just doesn’t have, to help prevent slips and drops. That little bit of grip isn’t enough to pick up lint either, which is great for me because I keep it in my pocket.

The button cutouts are large and give a nice window to the orange button on my white 2XL. I’m happy that I went with the white again now that I have this case. All I can say is, if you’re on the fence, grab the case. This is the first case I’ve had, of many, that I’ve decided to keep on the phone.

I apologize for the delay, as I have been travelling. No, I have not noticed any signal reduction at all with this case, and I live pretty far out of town.

My primary concern about this case is that it does not wrap around the phone and come up above the screen. This means that a drop of the device could allow the screen to come directly in contact with the ground. Even with a screen protector in place, this would seem to be a huge risk to the integrity of the glass.

Any thoughts or comments around this?

I've been using this case since the first shipment of them last year along with their car mount. Love it. I did drop my phone a few times and cracked my screen protector (SGFreshIdea loca one) but love the case!

I'm currently just using a full body plastic film. With this case it fits perfect and you can't see the edge of the protector at all. LiQuid Shield - Google Pixel 2 XL Screen Protector I didn't think I'd like the feel but it doesn't bother me, it's cheap, and it really does cover the whole screen.

The corners do wrap around the phone and the sides have a slight lip. Part of the top and bottom are left exposed but I think it's fine when used with a good tempered glass. The case isn't meant to provide maximum drop protection. Those cases are pretty bulky. The Pitaka Magcase is a truly minimal case that doesn't add any bulk. Might want to look for a more protective case like the Incipio DualPro if you frequently drop your phone.

My comment about not wrapping around was directly targeted at the fact that it does not rise up beyond the height of the screen - any case will obviously have to wrap around the corners in order to stay on. Zero protection for the screen as a result.

I've moved on from the case because A) it provides no screen protection and B) one of the corners doesn't stay seated properly.
