I bought the Pixel 2 and sold my Samsung Galaxy S8. The S8 is like a flashy car which looks very impressive but is pretty average to drive. The Pixel 2 on the other hand looks a bit ordinary but runs like a dream and is such fun to use.

I am used to the kludge that is the 'Samsung Experience'. A duplicate, uninstallable Samsung app for each Google app, the unnecessary Bixby, two levels of battery optimisation, a phone which turns on in your pocket and does random things like call a contact, sends a gibberish text message to someone, or worse calls the emergency services (Samsung is working on a fix and has acknowledged the problem) and simply unpleasant and jarring to use.

The Pixel 2 is a breath of fresh air. Everything works as it should. I've had the phone for around 6 days and am constantly amazed at how efficient it is - not even going to mention that camera . . . Although my car is just a year old and has bluetooth integration I've always had to initiate a call manually. With the Pixel I can just say 'OK Google, call Steve' and off it goes. It works flawlessly, even with the phone off or playing music.

I took a picture of a flower on my cycle ride the other day, used Google Lens and it identified the plant and gave me more information. Wow!

The user experience is simply excellent. I'm loving it!

Glad to hear, you don't have the clicking, whining sound then? I'm waiting on mine and not hearing perfect devices everywhere

Glad you are enjoying it. I'm patiently waiting on unboxing my XL this evening.

No clicking or whining at all. I forgot to mention that Smart Lock works perfectly too - it never did on the S8. At home I just double-tap the screen and I'm in. Likewise in the car. Elsewhere the fingerprint sensor is amazing - so fast and accurate.

Think you had a defective unit. And installing Package Disabler Pro I can freeze all unwanted apps

Defective unit? For turning on in my pocket? See here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...cpage/board-id/GalaxyS/page/1/thread-id/23186

Yes, I am aware you can freeze/disable unwanted apps but the consequences are not always predictable. My point was that the Pixel 2 doesn't need work-arounds and it is an excellent experience out of the box. I'm sure the average S8 purchaser isn't going to use Package Disabler Pro.

I know that most users would not know about Package Disabler Pro. I was just giving you a possible solution. I also know that most buyers probably know nothing about an optimized software phone like the Pixel's. I would think most average users get a phone based on what features that particular phone has. The Pixel's could be the best phones money can buy. I can't say yes or no. But for my needs the S8 has more of the features I want and use. On a side note. I do hope if either of the Pixel's have problems I hope Google can fix it quickly. I don't like to see anybody who spends a lot of money on a phone have issues... even people who use iPhones ;-) lol

I've have owned the Samsung S3, S4, Note 3, Note 4, and Note 7. And I have to agree, after using the 6P, Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL there is something very refreshing and surreal about using these over the Samsung's. People can talk about features all they want but I could care less, these google-branded phones are just much more enjoyable for me to use. And quite honestly I haven't been excited about Samsung phone since the Note 4. As long as I can keep getting big screen Google phones I'll probably keep buying them because I just like the overall OS experience better.

I have to agree. My pixel 2 is the best phone I've owned. I came from a s7 edge and while it was good with plenty of features I hardly used them. Stock android is the way to go.

too bad the muted colors are killing everything I hope that Google updates this software fix 8.1

I think the complaints about colors are just on the XL. If not, idk what people are upset about. The colors are perfect on mine. I have vivid turned on.

I took a picture yesterday when I got my phone I had a completely orange shirt when I looked at the picture I took my shirt look red the colors are not acted despite Google using srgb mode they really need to recalibrate that screen or at least give us the option to turn it off I prefer the Google pixel original screen calibration

I now prefer the sRGB color space over my old Samsung's. It is pretty easy to get used to. If I get the cartoon option in later software update then it is icing on the cake.

Would you call the Samsung a Lexus and the Pixel a Subaru? :P

I've had a similar experience- Pixel 2 has been killer in efficiency, battery life, and I actually prefer the more accurate color of the screen.

Folks keep in mind Pixel 2 has a Samsung AMOLED screen and colors will look different than the P-OLED screen made by LG on the Pixel 2XL. Just my 2 cents. All the hoopla with the screen and colors is limited so far to the big brother. The regular Pixel 2 is just fine.

Absolutely perfect choice of words to reflect the discussion concerning the 2 XL: "hoopla" - unnecessary level of fuss about a situation.
