Pixel 2 XL - Mushy Power Button

In general, it often depends on who you get and how you approach
Exactly. A little rhetorical hand tying goes a long way.
Obviously Google's policy is much looser and you've shown that Google beta testers should expect support.
No, no. I wouldn't go that far on either point. Let's say beta testers shouldn't take No for an answer IFF they're calling about a mechanical issue.

As a follow up to my original post - I finally had the time to unenroll from the Android P Beta program, set up as new and get everything important installed/configured. I then contacted Google support via the email that they sent me. I told them that the problem (as we all know) was still present and they responded with a request for the IMEI of my device. I provided that, at which point they asked where I had purchased the device. I told them that I had purchased it at Target (the same information I provided in the original chat session and an earlier email).
They THEN blew me off and told me to take it up with Target.
I'm not as pissed about that as the fact that they wasted all of this time and effort on my part - they could have just told me that upfront when I first contacted them.

For many years I've only purchased directly from Google and I always include Google's extended warranty. I'm fully covered even for accidental drops and spills. I like that this completely eliminates any support problems.

It was smart of you to purchase insurance! That way, you do not have to worry!!

I ended up not not purchasing Google insurance when I bought my Pixel 2 (I just couldn't swallow the extra $150 or whatever it was); so I am a little paranoid about something happening to my phone... But I think that I will consider insurance for my next smartphone, just in case. You never know!

Just reading this......so they are denying any type of service to your phone or they just don't want to exchange it?

My apologies if this is something you've already tried without success, but my wife's Moto X Pure Edition developed a similar problem a couple of months ago -- the power button was no longer "clicking" in and out, but was "sticky" or "mushy" when pressed. Following the directions I found online that had worked for others who encountered the same issue with the MXPE and other smartphones, I took a Q-tip, dipped the cotton tip in rubbing alcohol, dabbed off the excess liquid, then rubbed the moistened tip gently around the power button a few times. After waiting a half-minute for the alcohol to dissolve whatever gunk might have been causing the stickiness and evaporate, I tried pushing the power button a couple of times and voila! -- it was operating normally again. I hope this simple solution will prove equally helpful in remedying your problem.

That's a tip worth remembering. It's so easy to forget what sticky, sweaty, greasy, smelly, germ-infested vile messes our fingers occasionally are.

This is what Google support had to say (verbatim): "I've checked the device details, you'll have to return to the store where you bought it for service. They will check if the device can be replaced."
I haven't contacted Target yet but if the Power button gets any worse that'll be my course of action.

That's insane....Google owns the warranty but I guess since we are talking about replacement maybe they want you to go through Target.
