Pixel 2 XL Spontaneously Texts, Calls, Tweets While in My Pocket

Fwiw, I found out I DID have my home set as a Trusted Place. So, that would explain that! For me.... I know the original poster verified that he does not have his home added as a Trusted Place. So the mystery continues...

I just checked it now and yes, my home is set as a trusted place.

So, do you think that's the problem? And do you remember setting it to that?

I believe I did set my home to be a trusted place, but that would have been at least a year ago. Coincidentally, I posted this thread a little over a year ago. So it's possible having my home as a trusted place is the problem. However, the occurences are random and happen in streaks. I will have two or three happenings in a day or two and then nothing for weeks or even months. OTOH, I can't remember them happening anywhere except at home.

I wonder if it's a combination of trusted place and having the display light up on notification?

I don't have either of those functions activated on my P2XL, but I'm still experiencing this unwelcome phenomenon.

Same issue. The screen should not activate untill you pull it out of your pocket. The sensor should keep the screen off untill you pull it out of your pocket. I'm not using Tasker or any app to help the problem. This should be fixed by Google.

Was watching TV, sitting on couch, looking at phone. Navigated the phone back to the home screen of my launcher then lightly dropped the phone onto the couch cushion next to me. Upon landing on the couch Pixel 2 XL opened Chrome to whatever page I was last viewing.

Wondering why my secondary username is showing...

After trying all of the things recommended... nothing changed. Actually it got worse and the phone was very unstable. Feeling desperate I removed any app that I had installed and did a hard reset. So far so good. I intend to add back one app at a time.

I give up!!! I deleted all apps other than what comes with the phone and did a factory reset. I figured that my problem would go away..... but it was not to be. It does all kinds of random things without any interaction on my part. I'm not the original owner. Do you think Google would be willing to help me?????

It's not your phone. I've tested this when calling my wife I put my hand over the top part of the phone and the screen turns off. Then I had her call me and when the call came up I muted the call and turned off the screen, the screen turned back on. I repeated the process and it was still doing the same thing. There is no setting in the diaper app geared towards screen or pocket detection. This is an issue that needs to be resolved by google.

Pretty sure the phone's screen is going to come on if you are receiving a call, including when your phone is in your pocket. That's not a problem. You WANT to be alerted if you are receiving a call and your phone is in your pocket. Even if the ringer is muted and the vibrate turned off, the screen will wake up. This is normal behavior.

The problem is when the phone starts opening apps after a soft power down and it's been in your pocket for a while.

If it's in your pocket, the power button could be getting pressed, turning the screen on. Root and run an app like Quick Reboot Pro to lock the screen before putting it into your pocket. (Saves the switch and keeps the screen from getting turned on.)

I agree if the ambient light sensor is working correctly the screen shouldn't light up in anything dark, including a pants pocket. I tested mine by covering the light sensor up with my thumb and the screen stayed completely dark regardless of what I did. But I don't have a pixel 2 either, which seems to be the only pixels with this particular problem.

You would think by now they would have something this basic and crucial to the proper operation of a modern smartphone completely ironed out. I was shocked when my 2015 MXPE had the pocket dialing issue come up once or twice. I've actually still recently read of phones not turning their screens off when people put them up to their ear to talk.... I mean wth is that all about lol.

Yeah, I'm not going to go through the hassle to root my phone for something like this.

Finally stopped my "problem". My phone was so erratic I was just going to get rid of it. I tried every recommended fix but nothing worked. On a whim I disabled the fingerprint sensor. I now have a properly functioning Pixel. The only downside is that I have to unlock the phone using my PIN#. I hate to lose that ability but it works. I feel certain that it will work for many others.

Thanks. That is a bummer of a fix but glad you figured out something that works fir you since getting a phone is a pretty expensive fix most of us cannot afford or.would hope to avoid.
