Hey guys!
I've been out of touch with smartphone market for quite a while now. With Black Friday coming up, I'll be looking to replace my Galaxy S6. As the title says, I'm currently looking at either Google Pixel 2 XL or Huawei P20 Pro.
As you probably guessed - first consideration is camera. I've heard great things about both, though after watching a couple comparisons, I have some worries. P20 Pro seems to be a bit overzealous when it comes to saturation, also looks like it has some problems preserving details in highlights and shadows every now and then. At the very least, seems like Pixel does it better.
On the other hand, lack of pro mode on Google's camera is a big issue for me. There are times when I'm after specific effect in a photo, which require manual setup, rather than letting camera give me what it thinks is the best average. (Any good alternative camera apps which can still make use of Google's software wizardry?)
As far as performance goes - I want the phone to deal smoothly with typical everyday tasks - calls, emails, snapping photos, social media, browsing web, listening to music, watching a video now and then, with good enough battery to get me through the day or two with moderate usage. I'm not interested in gaming on the phone.
I'm hoping to stick with the phone for 3-4 years, so I'm also interested in how they perform long-term, how long can I expect them to keep getting updates etc.
Thanks in advance for all replies!
