Pixel 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Yeah... I have a 5X as well (it's a backup that I bought for my 6P, because phone)... and when I did use it as my DD, I had no issues getting 3 to 4 hours of use from the thing over a full day's worth. It actually performed quite admirably... smooth, stable... Just about the only 'issue' I would report is that the overal camera performance (i.e. speed of use) lags behind its bigger brother, the 6P. But that is more or less expected.

Your mileage may vary... when it comes to something like battery life, I don't even attempt to equate one person's usage with another's... there are just too many factors involved that render such a comparison moot.

"The only real difference right now between the Sailfish and Marlin is the screen resolution. If that holds true, the Sailfish will likely be the more popular device. 1080p displays are still perfectly fine and better on battery."

Now what about the battery? The Marlin has a 3450mAh while the Sailfish has a 2770mAh. Now even though the Sailfish has a 1080p display which is better on battery, wouldn't choosing the Marlin for a better lasting experience be better ? I'm coming from a Nexus 5 which has a 2300mAh so I feel the Sailfish isnt much of a difference in battery size which worries me.

It will be.... I owned the Nexus 5 and they really made a mistake putting that small a battery in a 1080 phone... battery performance was always a bit of a headache with that phone. I own a 5X and it is significantly better than the 5 in terms of battery performance... nearly 500mah more is a significant improvement and combined with advancements in processor power management, it results in quite a difference.

Now, the newer Nexus should benefit from additional power improvements on the 820 vs the 808 in the 5X, so it should do even better in that regard.

Now, the larger device will most likely perform better on battery tests, but the smaller one will do as well as any of the 3K mah QHD phones currently on the market.

Thank you for that. Prices will be a factor for me so I know Sailfish would be a quick pick but was definitely worried about the battery. This made me feel better about it.

Based on the size, I will definitely go Marlin. Hoping that the designs include the new BoomSound though.

Sailfish. Hoping for small bezels to make this about the size of the iPhone 6/6s

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

I'd be pretty happy with 5.5 inches so I can actually comfortably use the phone with one hand. I can sort of manage the 6P with one hand but it's obviously quite difficult. Something a little smaller and more ergonomic would be great.

Numbers aren't everything. Nexus 5 was a first generation 1080p phone. You also need to consider things such as display efficiency. 1080p screens on phones have been out for ages so chances are even with the Nexus 5 battery an equivalent device using this year's hardware would fare much better.

Good point. Definitely taking all tips about this so I feel I make the right choice between the two.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

It's like the S7 and the S7 edge, i'd prefer the bigger one just because of the 5.5" display (don't care about 2k resolution) and the bigger battery.
