Pixel 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Marlin, and hoping it comes out soon. Tired of the wait for a new phone!

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Hoping for it soon as well, bought the OP3 but it has a couple warts I'm not fond of and I'd like to compare it to a Nexus, just not the 6p since its been out so long in comparison.

I'll take it it! I really like the design of this phone.

I know it's a "leak/render"

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

If specs are true, the Sailfish is a non starter due to battery size. They can give me all the Doze, optimization and efficiency they want, but nothing beats raw power. I refuse to even consider anything less than 3000 mAh on principle alone, and even that is weak.

I totally agree. Marlin is where it's at with a 3450mAh or so. I can't wait for this phone.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

I'm really excited about the Marlin. I'm going to grab it when it comes out as this will be my first experience with a Nexus device. Coming from a Note 4 and also a Moto X Pure I gravitate toward the larger screen size. I'm not sure that I would be able to discern the difference if they weren't sitting side by side to be honest.

As far as the design render. I don't think it looks too bad at all. I like that it's different.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Marlin looks like something I might pick up! I hope its out here soon.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

If they are as well built as my HTC M10, I might just look at getting a Sailfish (I like smaller phones). Although if the Marlin holds well, then maybe that one. I hope they sell them at Best Buy, so I can go in, and get a feel for the phones.

Right now the rumors sound like:

Sailfish
5" 1080p AMOLED Display
Snapdragon 820 with 4GB RAM
32GB Storage
12 MP camera (8 on the front)
Rear FPS
USB - C
2770 mAh battery

Marlin
5.5" 1440p AMOLED Display
Snapdragon 820 with 4GB RAM
32 or 128 GB Storage
12 MP camera (8 on the front)
Rear FPS
USB - C
3450 mAh battery

Assuming build materials and quality are the same, the real differences are screen, size, battery and whether or not there's a 128GB option. With what we know so far, are you leaning Sailfish or with the larger Marlin?

...but with Doze and a non-quad screen, your battery life will be pretty good. Fast charging too?

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

It didn't save the Nexus 5X. The battery is insultingly bad. Not as bad as the Samsuck S6, but almost as bad.

Really? Both of my 5Xs had/have really good battery life. Of course I use them differently since it's a work device for me and most of my games and entertainment happen on my 6P or other devices, but 5X has no problem blasting through a full day for me.

I don't believe that one bit. There are thousands of threads about the horrible battery life of this phone.

I know mine was slightly deecent, now, it's shameful. Barely 2.5 hours of screen time, dead battery in essence than 6 hours.

I'll go look for those threads. You're the first I've seen that says it is horrible.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

First 60 or so threads on that section, one user is complaining and everyone else seems to be praising. My 5X is currently on pace for 4.5 hours SOT over about 35 hours, but it's not a normal day for me.

Most of those threads are previous to the March update. Battery life has been solid since then. I get 3.5-4 hours SOT

That might explain it. Poor battery life doesn't appear except for one user complaining in the first four pages of results in that forum. I bought mine after the "magic" update that fixed everything, so never had any of the stuttering or lag people saw and have always had very good battery life.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

Mine is lag city. I have to reset it at least once every couple days, and I have never, ever seen 3 hours screen time. This is my second one. My first one was worse

From my reading, here and elsewhere: You are the exception, rather than the rule. Especially since the March update, which appeared to have solved both the lag and runtime issues of which some (many?) users had been complaining.

The only thing that's keeping me from pulling the trigger on a 5X at this point is the new Nexus' are due, soon, and the scattered reports that the 5X is less-than-exemplary with respect to water resistance. If the smaller of the two new Nexus devices is too expensive for me, I probably will go for a 5X.

Re: Nexus 2016 - Sailfish or Marlin?

This is not my typical usage, but this is from my 5X this morning:

It was ready to go 2 and a half days if I let it go all the way to zero, which I try to avoid as much as possible.
