I currently have the Samsung S3 and it works fairly well but lately the battery is not hold a charge as well.

I see that Amazon (others?) have the Smart Watch 3 reasonably discounted but in some reviews, possibly older, there are comments that some of its functions only work with Samsung phones and that "generic" Android phones might not have those functions.

Anybody have this "new" watch? How well does it function with NON-Samsung phones/devices?

Thanks in advance.

Most of the features work fine on non-Samsung phones. I have the GW3 with a Pixel 5 phone. Notable features that I know only work on Sammy phones are ECG and direct texting from the watch (you can respond to received texts but not initiate texts from non-Sammy phones). GW3 is an outstanding watch. Just way too expensive at MSRP. I wish ECG would work on my phone. Sammy is not extremely transparent on this. Other than that, the watch does everything I want.

THANKS for the reply.

So some features are "locked" to Samsung phones.

The Amazon price is now: $279.00 for the black/larger size.

GW3 is still an awesome watch, even without ECG. One thing not mentioned, it will probably even hold a high trade-in value should you upgrade in the future via Samsung. For example (my numbers may be a bit off since I'm doing this from memory), shortly after the GW3 came out, the original GW (2+ years old) was worth ~$260 towards a trade-in and the Galaxy S3 (3+ years old at the time) was getting ~$220. Net price for a new GW3 was around $200. Pretty amazing numbers.

This, and the current Amazon price, all show how overpriced the GW3 was out of the gate.

Forgot to mention, there are some hacks that may allow ECG on non-Sammy watches. They are a bit involved last I looked. Go to XDA developers website. It's an excellent source for technical information, help, and hacks.
