Was it confirmed that you can't use nav buttons with the new Pixels? Not a fan of those gestures at all.

Yes, that was confirmed. Some people speculate that maybe you can bring it back with root or some kind of ADB command, but not sure.

Does a 3rd party launcher eliminate the need for gestures? I'm just curious if anyone knows.

I'm wondering this too. There are YouTube videos showing how to install Nova on the Pixel 3, but it wasn't clear to me if it would eliminate gestures such as for recent apps, etc.

Wow gestures only? I'm gonna have to get used to this. Hope I get used to it quickly.

Yep they don't allow the old school anymore like how it was an option on the 2. They're all in on gestures.

Using navigation buttons is such a habit that when I get the Pixel, it will be rough a first week.

It will but once used to it you'll fly :). I was worried on my 2 and iPhone but now it's just me flying around.

The Android Police guys said that launchers like Nova and Action don't bring back the buttons. In fact, if you use a 3rd party launcher, the Back button apparently is always present (whereas with the Pixel Launcher, the Back button disappears when you're on the homescreen).
