Pixel 3 whose switching?

I saw the average consumer video of his day in life of Pixel 3. The mic sounded terrible when he was doing a recording. Really too bad but it doesn't sound like a bad phone. That and battery was maybe average.

Of course! It's all about the dongles these days when you don't have a headset Jack.

Yeah I saw that video too. The pixel's 3 battery seemed horrible.

Yeah, I really was hoping for more from the new Pixels but with more hands on info trickling out, even though there are a few features I like on the Pixel like camera features and the idea of better software support for me is attractive, if I had to spend money on a new phone in those two sizes, I think the S9 and S9+ are the better phones spec wise and even value wise probably able to find better pricing on them currently.

The smaller Pixel is a nice looking phone and spec wise matches closely with the S9 but the 1080 screen leaves something to be desired when you can get a better screen on the S9.

The 3XL is matches up in size to the S9+ but battery sounds like will be better on the S9+ and you do get 6gb ram that might benefit the phone longer term.

The Huawei phones that just came out sound a bit more exciting than the Pixels to me... in screen FPS, triple Leica cameras, 4200 mah battery. (I didn't care for the Samsung like curved glass though).

Too bad you can't get those phones in the US but may give an idea what to look for in the S10 in another 4-5 months.

You'll need 6+gb RAM on S9 series for performance issues related to all those unnecessary, duplicative Samsung apps clogging up your device.

It helps keeping that from helping long term hopefully. My Note 8 is my first Samsung and I think they did right in putting in 6gb and probably the first Samsung they had that you don't hear a dreaded Samsung lag. Mine going strong after one year. Won't know after year 2.

I hope Google is able to do more with less because they have more control over the hardware and software like Apple. But you did hear from hardcore Pixel users like MKBHD say his 2 series ended up lagging. And Erica posts recently that app refresh was kinda high on her 3XL.

I don't personally believe there is a ton of duplicate apps like they use to do. I happen to like Samsung internet browser over Chrome. And Samsung experience is not that bad. I use to have a Nexus 4 and in those days there was a clear reason to like stock over crazy TouchWiz or Sense. Now the difference has narrowed quite a bit. And with the Note there is cool bloat like the Spen features. And Samsung Pay with MST ability does rock so that’s a dupe I can live with.

I'm just saying on a dollar feature performance basis and with discounts available for the s Series right now, the S is a better value at class leading performance. The Pixel might be a better running and updated phone in after year 2 over the Samsung. We'll see.

I agree and the new mate 20 pro looks to be more exciting than my current note 9 haha

Tried the Pixel 3, am glad I have the Note 9

My daughter and her husband both got Pixel 3s at my recommendation. It's a great phone. Fast, slim and feels good in the hand. Pictures are amazing.

However, there are a number of things that make it undesirable for me. First, and foremost, is the Pure Google experience. When people say that they mean stripped down and lean. The reason I choose Android is because I get features and options that Apple doesn't let their users have. The reason I choose Samsung over Google is because I get features and options other phones don't have.

Here's a simple example. Always on display. Yes, the Pixel has it but the only option is to turn it on or turn it off. There's no variety of clocks, there's no ability to have a background picture, it's just bland. This is permeated all throughout the device. The Note 9 has a ton of options and that's just the way I like it.

Actually I had read elsewhere you could add gifs to their AOD and if this article is true, then I think they are more interesting than ours in that you can use live wallpapers in AOD. On top of that I liked that with their charge stand, the Pixel at rest/AOD can be used to show pictures like a frame, Google assistant is available while on the stand and set as a bedside alarm with soft lighting to slowly wake you up.

I don't particularly find my Notes AOD that exciting. I can put a gif if I want and change the way it shows the time and date. Big whoop lol.

I'd like to have those AOD/docking features available on Samsung along with some of the new camera software features and the call screening.

Spills the beans...who is switching ? I'm seriously tempted to get one so I can enjoy the benefits of software updates.

The home hub and the slate look very promising though.
What exactly is the benefit of the software updates being faster? I have read so many reviews that they often have to be updated again because of bugs in the initial releases. I love getting new releases too but it isn't really life changing to get them a couple of months early. Samsung usually has alot of these convenience items in the OS already anyhow.

I never install new updates until I've seen what others have said. Maybe 2 weeks after it rolls out at a minimum. Heck, I still have Windows 7 on my work desktop.

For me it is really just security stuff. The other stuff is just a bonus. Basically the thing most users don't care about but .. I am a nerd in that area so .. that's just me :P.

For the first time I can remember, Samsung is sending out monthly security updates.

I got the P3 mainly for the camera. However, I'm not necessarily switching. I still do a lot of journaling on the N9.

Well, I was thinking one might be fun to play with, however with all the wide spread problems I think I will wait a few months to see if the majority of the problems get worked out. Memory management seems to be a huge issue throughout the android forums. Also I expect this phone to take a major price drop just like the MotoZ2 force did however Google may get it dialed in with updates.

From a risk perspective it's pretty low that you would be compromised due to lack of a patch compared to a phishing attempt. I just don't see benefit anymore other than something breaking 😑

Oh I agree it is low -- but I still value it either way. The risk doesn't factor into that for me.
