I agree.Why Google drops everything down below the blacked out notch area just BEYOND me. Such a crazy move on their end especially that most other OEMs keep everything in the same location when you hide it. I have OnePlus 6T and they do that perfectly. Why Google, why?? Such an amateur move.
Not only did they put the deepest, ugliest notch in a phone, they didn't even give the general user a reasonable option to hide it. As you said, other OEM's have options to hide the notch and keep the notification info in the blacked out part, but Google didn't bother to come up with a solution.
Very frustrating, so now I've had to go into the setting, active developer settings and choose the hide notch option, which essentially makes this phone looks like a Pixel 2XL...
