Pixel 3 XL

they might as well put last year's chip in this unit ????????????

they did. they have the 845 that launched in the s9+. i don't know why every android phone in 2018 has the same stuff in it. Was hoping the note 9 would have something better than the 845 but nope.

The Snapdragon 845 is Qualcomm's 2018 flagship SoC. The Galaxy S9+ was released in 2018.

The Note 9 couldn't have had something better than the Snapdragon 845 because there is no better chip from Qualcomm than the 845.

There used to be 2 snapdragon chips a year. I remember because the s line used to have the lesser chip and the note line had the newer, better chip.

Xperia phones have fantastic software! And fast updates compared with all but Google phones.
Uh no... in my opinion, getting a 'wish it were solid' device from one of Android's worst OEM's with some of the worst software in the business is not a normal substitute for the Pixel experience.

I don't buy this argument at all.

Essential was a brand new company, their first phone they make is the Essential phone with has a tiny cutout for the front camera and a bit of a bottom bezel and it was released in 2017. If Google is a toddler in hardware design, then Essential was a newborn and still managed to design a far better looking phone 1.5 years in advance

I refuse to believe Google's hardware engineers can't come up with a much, much better design that what they've put into the Pixel 3 XL, whereas startup companies like Essential or dying companies like HTC can do so. Google themselves aren't manufacturing the device, they just need to design it and send the plans to Foxxcon to manufacture it.

Google's designers are just terrible and we're left with a phone with the biggest, ugliest notch on a phone, a large bottom bezel and 2016 specs with 3,430mah battery, 4gb ram, 64gb base storage, no headphone jack, poor-quality LG displays, single camera etc. Every other OEM that is putting out a legitimate high-end flagship. Where exactly is the value in the Pixel 3 XL?

On top of that, Google *should* be spending the time and effort to make the design exquisite. This is going to be their high-end flagship phone that'll retail for $850+, so there's no excuse to cut corners, but cutting corners is all we've seen so far.

Essential has one camera, less sensors, a different display, etc.

You don't just draw a design and send it, it actually has to be engineered.

The "2016 specs" comment and ensuing statement is fairly ridiculous and I no longer have the opinion that you are trying to make helpful argument.

I hope you find a phone you like.

I actually agree with you for once. I will one up you. This may be the worst phone of the year, any company. Google should fire everyone involved with this trash phone. No, I am not joking.

This piece of trash won't break 300K. The 3? yes, the 3 XL? No. Not even close. It's like Google is purposefully sabotaging themselves with this phone.
300k? lol

That's right - Google would send the engineered design drawings to Foxxcon for them to manufacture. Google are no longer new to this, so the design of the Pixel 3 XL with that size notch and bottom bezel really doesn't have an excuse. Somehow every other phone manufacturer seems to have competent designers with somewhat sleek designs, even with notches, but Google cannot.

And aside from the Snapdragon 845, the Pixel 3 XL definitely has specs similar to 2016 phones. They even somehow have a smaller battery in the Pixel 3 XL (3,430mah) than they did in the 2016 Pixel XL (3,450mah) despite having a larger physical body, again, no idea why Google somehow cannot improve the specs of their phones.

Speaker + other components, such as the bottom display connectors.

Chin and top bezel are not related unless the OEM makes them similar size for symmetry. Making a bigger chin does not reduce or increase the quantity or size of stuff that would go in a top bezel.

The iPhone bends the glass of the display around the bottom of the device and plugs into connectors at a downward angle.
I understand that you like Google and I do to but I'm sorry these just sound like excuses for a **** poor design. They could've easily done a million other things to not make it look as awkward as it does.

Not about liking a company, I'm trying to push back on some of the ignorance coming into the forums by trying to explain why some design considerations are the way they are but have one or two people that keep repeating the same falsehoods despite having multiple people already explain lines of reasoning to them.

I do the same for any other company that's being needlessly trashed or inappropriately praised based on grotesque assumptions and conspiracy theories, rather than an even slightly nuanced understanding of the way in which the engineering and design processes happen.

In this thread however, it seems like some want an echo chamber rather than a forum of ideas.

There are also zero opinions, defenses or excuses in the post you're quoting. Simply explanations for the things that the person I quoted was confused about.

I mean we are about 2 months away give it or take and I still hope these videos are just bs and that it's some prototype dvice and not the final product. I just can't see the pixel 3 and 3 XL having little to no upgraded.

Also didn't Google bought the HTC division to work on the pixel 3 and XL? I had high hopes once I heard they had obtain HTC.

HTC team is too new to have had any input on the Pixel 3. They probably are early enough to impact the Pixel 4.

This fail phone will require plenty of Google shills on the scale of Apple cultism to justify such a stupid, ugly design.

That notch is so ridiculous. If you do put it in no notch mode, you will have less screen than the 3XL due to it cutting so deep into the screen.

That chin is unbalanced.

I am okay wit the ram and storage, as 4GB is plenty for such an optimized phone, but the battery shrank????? Uh, wut?

I'm really just hoping these recent leaks are fake. I've had every Nexus or Pixel for four years and right now these leaks look pretty much like a 2XL to me with a notch. If they balanced that notch out by expanding the screen on the bottom, like the iPhone X, I'd be okay with that. But if these leaks are legitimate, I'm going to have a hard time spending $900 on a 3XL and probably will just hang on to my 2XL.

I really hope so too. Because I just can't get over how half assed this design looks.

I can understand wanting to debate the aesthetics of a device. There will always be different opinions about something like that. But battery complaints?? Battery sizes have been declining for years. Why would the situation with the Pixel 3 have an expectation of going up in size? Especially if Google feels they can do as much or more with less.

And we are talking about 90mAH. Would anyone even notice?
