Pixel 3a voice recognition doesn't work in messaging apps since Android security patch

[Android Central Question]

I recently downloaded the October 5th Android 10 security patch and since then have not been able to use voice recognition in any messaging app. I have tried Google messages, Verizon messages, and Signal. The voice recognition has worked fine before but doesn't since the patch. I've tried starting my phone in safe mode and only using Google messages with no success. I am not experiencing any issues with voice recognition on Google assistant
