Hi all,
I used to upgrade phones every year but stopped with the pixel 4 XL (I guess I simply grew out of it).
Had 4 XL since it came out and have not felt the need to change. Been great.

Folks coming from 4 XL. is it worth the upgrade?
The camera is probably the reason I would upgrade if I do. But yet again, 4 XL been amazing.

Appreciate the feedback from folks who upgraded from pixel 4 XL.

Thanks!

From an unlocking perspective the FPS will be a step back although for unlocking apps more are compatible with FPS than face id so that might balance it out.

Camera is better but not head and shoulders, mind you I think google are just getting started with the software side on these new sensors.

Just went from a 4xl to a 6 pro and I'm happy with the upgrade. I'm enjoying the bigger screen. If taking zoom shots is important to you, the 6 Pro provides a noticeably sharper picture in the 6-8X range.
Battery life so far has been about the same as the 4xl. Face unlock on the 4xl was no doubt superior but the FPS on the 6 Pro is pretty accurate even if it's a bit slower.
I really enjoyed my time with the 4xl. Was a great phone for me. Should you upgrade? I guess that depends on whether the 6 Pro's cost will put a big dent in your budget or not.

Most curious about your battery commentary there. Are you using the 6 more, do you think, or maybe in different ways? I'm making the same jump (4 XL to 6 Pro) and the monstrous battery is one of the biggest draws for me.

I'm replacing my 4XL due to the fact, I replace every two years, and March 2022 would be two years, so I'm jumping a few months early.

I never had a battery problem until 12 was installed last month. However, that has leveled out and is not what I would consider a problem. If it was a problem, I would order a new one for 30 bucks and replace it. Or, for those who cannot replace their own battery, I was told it wasn't that expensive at a repair shop.

I do not take any serious photos, I have four Nikon DSLRs. I do take occasional photos when not near a DSLR (such as when walking around my property and a moose comes out of the trees to say hi), and might be nice if the photos are of better quality.

As for that FPS, I have never like the facial recognition it has never worked correctly so I hope the FPS works just as good. For the month when it seemed everyone was wearing a mask at the stores around here, it was a bigger pain, but that was about a month so not a big deal.

Don't put too much into my comment because I've only just started using the 6 Pro...the battery life could get better as the Adaptive feature kicks in. Yes, I've certainly been using the 6 more, messing with settings, themes, wallpapers, signing into all my apps, etc.

I'd also like to add that, before I got the 6 Pro, I was afraid that I would hate the curved glass screen and losing the squeezy sides for GA. Well, those are non issues for me now. I hardly notice the curved edges and I use the "hold down power button" feature for GA.

I still have my pixel 4xl , I really like this version but I like my 6 pro even more .

Having used the pixel 6 Pro for a week I can honestly say that I enjoy it far more than my pixel 4XL. Battery life is great, pictures are outstanding and the screen is just incredible. I have had no issues with the fingerprint reader. Although, I don't necessarily believe it, here is a screenshot from Accubattery. Screenshot_20211110-133401.jpg

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I do like face unlock, it does feel going backwards to finger prints scanner that many are complaining is slow.
I thought battery would last way longer than the 4 xl, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I might just hold on to my 4 xl a bit longer. Still runs like a champ. Don't feel the urge to upgrade.

I would assume sometime next year, some sales might come along that makes me bite.

Thanks again!

I came from a 4XL, and the upgrade was worth it. The camera is better, the screen is better, and the battery is better. For my usage I would get 4-5 hrs of SoT with the 4XL. With the same usage with 6Pro I get 6-7hrs SoT. Plus the footprint of the 6Pro is pretty similar to the 4XL you won't notice a huge difference. The downsides of the 6Pro so far, it is very slippery. Plus it is slightly heavier than the 4XL. The FPS is kind of hit or miss. I found it works for me 95% of the time. There are sometimes where it won't work, maybe sweaty, or smudgy hands, but other than that it works great.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a 4XL but I'm considering upgrading just to the regular Pixel 6. Would that be a decent upgrade? I'm hesitant because I don't want to lose my free Google photos backup. Thoughts?

I don't really see a jump from the 4xl to the regular P6 as needed. Especially if your still happy with it. THe Pro is a bit more compelling if you want to "upgrade"

Free backup? Pixel 4 xl didn't come with original photo backup for free.

Tell me pixel 6 still comes with the normal free storage saver option please

I completely agree. I've had the regular P6 since last Friday, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be returned. It's pretty bulky and a lot heavier, plus the camera bump is kind of annoying too. Oh, and then there's this issue. I created another thread about it, and my OCD doesn't like it!

I am not seeing this issue on mine.

For me there is a phone size tipping point, the Pro sits just the wrong side and the standard 6 just the right side. YMMV

Based off of the iteration gap and specs alone, I'd say you're looking at a very decent upgrade! Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

I'm pretty sure regardless of whether you choose original quality or storage saver, any photos saved using the 6/6Pro count against your 15GB.

Guess it depends on what features are important to you. For me that would be a downgrade as the screen resolution and camera zoom are a big deal.

Since you came from the 4XL do you miss the face unlock feature? What about the Soli thing...ever get use out of it?
