pixel 4 xl to pixel 5

The pixel introduction was being a high end device, then market changed and they needed a midrange phone , I think they should stick to that both versions , its rough times i understand but listen more to what customers want .

I think after years of their flagship pixels flopping, and the 3a and 4a being Amazon's best sellers, they realized where the money's really at ;-)
I don't think we'll be seeing any more $1000 pixels. But you have to remember we're spec nerds here, the average phone buyers are going to see the pixel 5 price along with 5G and say I can get a pixel with all these features for 700 bucks, or probably less through their carrier's deals. And they'll use them never noticing any lack of specs.
I think this was the only way forward for the pixel line. I'll take a pixel 5 over no pixel any day of the week lol.

I believe max screen brightness with adaptive brightness on is 675 nits which I believe is much better than 4XL...

You know, I think I absolutely agree with you. I mean when Google released The Pixel 4's as"flagship phones" however, they never sold us flagship phones at all. I do believe that Google selling them has mid range phones makes much much more sense for the future.

Let's see !

I am tempted by the new pixels either the 4a 5g or the 5. Not an immediate purchase but the specs don't bother me as long as the experience is good. I just didn't get into the 4xl like I thought it would.

I mean for me, my Pixel 3 XL is still going strong. After pausing my work profile and some of the apps I don't use nearly as much on my phone my battery has a little bit more endurance to last throughout the day! one's my phone is paid off, I will see which pixel phone I want to purchase. Probably the five but after YouTubers and pro reviewers review the camera in great detail!

Tempting for such a low price but seems like the only real "upgrade" is 5G capability. From what I read the camera hardware is identical to the 4/4xl and so any camera software updates would be ported to my 4xl as well.

Anyone going from a 4 or 4xl to the 5?

For me the appearance is better with smaller/no bezels. Hence slightly smaller phone so better in hand. Bigger battery. It seems no noticeable difference in performance. Wide angle lens with some telephoto function still there. Good price in the UK with £140 trade in on my Pixel 3. Annual birthday present for myself with new toy to play and aesthetically pleasant to stare at. That's enough for me.

Ya I do like the design a lot more than the 4. It's also much lighter than the 4xl

Yes, I do agree with you. The design choice of smaller bezels where the screen actually goes to the edge of the phone is a nicer look. That's what makes it look like a bigger screen without actually being a bigger screen.

Quite a difference in size it seems. That's good for me to use with one hand.

So I bought a Pixel 4a, which is amazing for the price point so far, as a phone to hold me over until the Pixel 5. I have the Pixel 5 on order, but I keep thinking that maybe the Pixel 4XL would be a better choice even though it's a year old due to specs etc. Instead of paying $700 plus device care etc and a case which would be closer to $900, I could get last year's on Swappa for about $100 more than selling this 4a. Am I missing something or am I really paying for a slight downgrade with the 5?

Pixel 4's have a known battery issue. I have had 3 pixel 4XL's in 10 months. I was at ubreakifix today trying to get this last one fixed so i can get it turned back on and transfer everything to my P4XL replacement from google before I send it back to Google. The P4XL replacement will be traded-in on a P5. Ubreakifix said pixel 4's have a well-known battery issue, it has been my worst pixel phone. I have had all of them in the XL version. I like the 5 as it is big enough size, but the biggest battery to date in a pixel. I have seen enough reviews and tests on the snapdragon 765g ot know that combined with 8gb of ram, i doubt i will have issues with processing speed. I dont game so take that fwiw.

I disagree, I sold my pixel 4 xl last month and using a pixel 3a spare phone i had laying around so I could upgrade to the p5. I think the Wide angle lens, bigger battery, extra 2 GB of ram, small bezels was enough for me to upgrade + i prefer he metal body vs glass because now I can use it without a case without worrying as much.

Although the chip is not an upgrade the rest of the specs were compelling for me to want to upgrade. I agree if you have a pixel 4xl, might not be a huge upgrade but coming from any other pixel device I'd say it is and for others that feel the same way as me where these other upgrades I mentioned above might be enough of an upgrade for some people.

This excites me because now I don't need to carry a moment case + heavy wide angle lens with me. :)

I'm not sure what you mean by a "known battery issue." The P4 was crippled from the start with a battery that was too small. As for the 4xl, most folks on this board have gotten good (although not great) battery life with the 4xl.
In any event, I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with yours and wish you better luck with the P5. :)

Battery in my Pixel 4XL has been perfectly fine.

My pixel 4xl gets a day battery , no complaints from me

Hmm, that's a toughie. The 4 to the 5 may not be a huge difference in terms of upgrading - but going from the Pixel 3 or 2 to the 5 would be a noticeable difference in experience.

If I had the Pixel 4, I am pretty sure I would not upgrade. I'd wait for the Pixel 6. Kind of why I didn't get the S20 when I still loved and even preferred my S10.

It all boils down to user experience and whether or not the individual user thinks it is a desirable/worthwhile upgrade or not! :)

If you posted a day or two ago I sold my 4XL in flawless condition..depends 4xl prices but if close probably go 5
