Hmm, okay. I was just curious if there may be other contributing factors involved. Sometimes specific phones seem to be finicky with different things, despite similar conditions like carriers, SIM, etc. My S10 seems to get a bit lower signal than my Pixel 2. Same carrier, same SIM, same apartment... Weird!

I'm guessing this is Google's way of reminding us that the Pixel 4a is a "discount" phone. I've noticed a few other things that are worse than my old Axon like the alarms on the Pixel 4a don't have the option to announce the time in addition to playing the alarm sound. Just a few little things, nothing major.

So combining the ring tone and notification tone volume into one channel is the price you pay for not paying a higher price for the phone.

It has nothing to do with the 4a being their midranger -- this is how it's always been on Pixel phones, including flagships (like my 3 XL). Google's phones have always been more on the basic side, without all the bells and whistles that other companies like Samsung throw in there.
